Thoughts on compacts

I'm looking to purchase a compact to supplement my 50D SLR. I don't always want to carry around the SLR. So I'm looking at a few compacts. I'm looking at the following:

• Canon 210is
• Canon S95
• Sony H55

Each obviously has its own advantages and disadvantages. My initial thoughts was getting the 210is, but DPReview knocks it quite a bit for ergonomics and low light noise. The Sony H55 is on the list as it fares better than the 210is in noise and IQ - but is said to be fairly slow.

The S95 is on the list as well its got the best IQ, but also only has a limited zoom. Also the interface will probably be nicer for some manual shooting and does have an f2.0 lens.

The use for the compact will be for events where the SLR will be too bulky to carry. A bit of travelling and mostly for the missus to use as the dSLR seems to scare her.

What are your thoughts and what other models should I be considering? Panasonic TZ8 maybe? Canon S20is?

Check out the sensor sizes. APS-C vs 1/1.7".

While EViLS are awesome that they house an APS-C sized sensor and gives the options that a SLR gives, I'm really don't want to invest in more lenses or carry around additional lenses. I'm looking for a compact form factor with a zoom with wide side 28mm or less and tele at 100mm or more (35mm equiv). I'm not going to be changing lenses. Also if i'm carrying a sizeable lens, then I would go with the DSLR anyway.

Anyone have experience with the S90? or the sx210?

+1 on the P7000... but what about the G12?
