One Energy wrote an article today and this system seems in line with my needs currently and fits my budget:

Sunsynk 5kW inverter with 7,2kWh Batterich li-ion batteries and a 2.7kW solar array.

Starting cost is around R123k including professional installation and all the required electrical protection and COC. This is a full hybrid system that provides for self-generation (electricity savings) and battery back-up.

What do you guys think of this option? Worthwhile? Overpriced? Parts of it are junk?

Price the components on powerforum-store yourself then see.

That array is going to struggle to charge that battery, especially in the winter if you're based in Cape Town.

Lets take option 2:

  • Sunsynk 8kW Hybrid Inverter, 10.8kWh Batterich li-Ion battery & 4.5kW solar array. Full hybrid system for self-generation, electricity savings and battery back-up. From R185,000.
Basically what I purchased for +/- R150K with another R15k for installation. 2 x 5.5 hubbles and 10x460w JA panels. So R20k overpriced.

I'm a complete newbie but just based on what little I know, I assumed the following specs:

5x Solar Panel - JA Solar 540W Mono PERC Half-Cell MBB R 3,719.10 x 5 = R18,595.5 for 2.7kw solar panels (again I'm assuming this is correct, I have no idea, also understand we'll probably need more panels)

1x Sunsynk 5kW 1P Hybrid PV inverter 48V - R21,959.25

9.6 KW Dyness Powerbox F10 – 48v 200ah - R 54,050.00 (had to go "1 up" from 7.2kw because they go from 5kw to 9kw on the store)

So a total of R94,604.75 for similar hardware from powerforum, which means roughly R30k for labour and installation?

Just trying to get my head around whether what was offered was a good deal or not. People here have a much better idea of what's going on than I currently do.

Ya, we're in the Cape. Definitely going to need some wiggle room for the cloudier winter months but we're not planning to go completely off-grid. Just something to help get through load shedding, especially stage 6.

My gut tells me:
Accessories should be less than 10k
Installation another 10k
