Why should a citizenship application be sped especially for him just because he's a great rugby player?

He has been playing in the country since he left school.

But more on point, it's perfectly logical to help deserving contributors with their paperwork.

If Bill Gates chose to become a south african, would you moan if they sped it up, i certainly wouldn't. The beast may not be Bill Gates, but he certainly is a great ambassador for the country. Every rugby fan world wide knows you shout "BEAST" when he gets the ball - you just can't buy pr like that.

...and while they are at it, they should be offering ex zim farmers quick citizenship and super cheap land so they can use their skills to make our country agriculturally richer.

I hope none of you proposing that the law be bent for the Beast are going to complain when the Shabir Shaik is pardoned?

Did the Beast try to blackmail Zuma, and influence the decisions of the most powerful man in the country.
Or did Shabir get ignored by Snorre?

I think that the point is the law is the law, and should apply equally to everybody.

There was somebody who used to work with us - been in the country since primary school so he grew up here, studied here, completed his tertiary studies here, is working here and sees SA as his home. But he still has to follow the same path - still waiting for his 5 years to pass before he can get permanent residence, and then has to wait a further 5 years to get citizenship.

Oh and he does qualify for the "exceptional skills" thing too, seeing that he has a masters in engineering.

Ambassador or not, if the law is bent for him then it should be bent for everybody. It's not fair to other people who also genuinely work their @$$ off to be treated any differently.

Is that your best defense, and are you honestly advocating special treatment on the basis that his name is chanted? I couldn't give a rats a-ss if the whole world chanted his name (let alone a stadium full of beer guzzling gorillas) - our constitution makes it quite clear that no one person is more important than another.

If there is a process to follow then it should be followed. By all means, I don't mind them speeding it up for him. But then the law should change so that it's sped up for everyone else in the same position.

put a sock in it, the guy plays rugby and we want him here, we don't want the convicted fraudsters or xenophobic victims here, as simple as that.

According to the IRB laws he may play for us. Plus he has a valid work permit according Oregan Hoskins.

It's just Butana Komphela who has a problem with Beast.

Countries do this thing all the time, ie fasttrack. Germany even fastracked Sean Dundee's citizen application to try and get him into the world cup squad for 2002. I may have the wrong world cup.
