Threesome advice for Irish teens on state-funded website sparks anger

Randy teenagers keen on expanding their sexual horizons are being offered ‘top tips’ on how to enjoy a threesome from a partly state-funded Irish website.

Spunout.ie, a site dedicated to helping 16-25-year-olds to make ‘informed decision about their lives’, runs through a bullet point list of ‘dos and don’ts’ when it comes to the sexual love triangle.

It warns participants to change condoms if switching partners, to agree on a code word to stop the threesome and not to get involved ‘because other people say it would be great craic’.

‘If your partner tells you that they want things a certain way, don’t ignore it during the threesome,’ the guide adds. ‘That’s pretty uncool and will likely affect your relationship too.’

Despite the friendly guide’s good intentions, its content has divided Ireland’s ruling party, the Fine Gael.

The country’s health minister, James Reilly, said it was ‘not the appropriate sort of information that the state should be putting out there’ and would be reviewing the website.

However the president of the youth wing defended it, saying: ‘Young Fine Gael supports SpunOut.ie publishing information about sex, including information regarding threesomes.’

The webpage is believed to be several years old but has recently gained media attention leading to the page to be edited.

‘This article was edited to amend some of the language used [but] the substance of the article remains the same,’ explained a website spokesperson. ‘This edit was reviewed by a relevant health professional.’
