So this **** is a thing in USA... however the government pays you out the necessary amount to cover everything.

Probably employing their dirty old tactic of bringing really bad news and then reeling it in so everyone feels like they get a good deal in the end.

The government stole your property?

Yes but turns out I don't have to pay it off while I live in this gutter.

Really?? Bonus!

I don’t think the full long term impact of this has fully sunk in. The proposed bill specifies that nil compensation may be paid to foreigners and white people. There is no time limit. There is no limit on how many times your land can be taken.

If this amendment is ratified it means that white people, and only white people, can never be guaranteed that their property won’t be taken away without compensation.

Consider this: Okay, so your land is taken. Luckily, you survive without being completely financially ruined. The repayment on the bond you still had to pay for another few years is relatively small and you still have an income.

But what are you expected to do now, assuming you’re staying in the country? I mean, you’re not exactly going to rush to buy another property, are you? Since it can yet again be taken away at any point.

And you can never get a bond again. No white people (and again, only white people) would be able to get a mortgage as the banks have no guarantee that they can use it as security.

This will effectively make it impossible for white people (and only white people) to own land in South Africa. It is, in effect, a policy that’s even more racist than some of the worst Apartheid laws. It’s just more subtle and less obvious.

If you support this policy, you are a racist. There is no other way to put it. You can justify it as much as you want by invoking the need to correct past injustices, etc. But that is not what this is. This is a racist law designed to make it impossible for a racial minority to exist in this country.

I'm confused a little. How is EWC going to differ from how things currently stand? As I understand it, you will simply lease the land from the state and the home will be yours to sell. You already lease your land from the state to some degree. You certainly can't stay in a residential suburb without paying state levies such as rates, fire, sewerage etc.

Like I'd care, do they think I'll be staying in the country afterwards?

Added to that is that if you are white, retrenched and over 50 you are highly unlikely to ever get employment again, irrespective of experience gained and qualifications held (minor exceptions, agreed) thanks to AA\EE. A junior- or middle manager's position? Forget it!

You are also unlikely to get any additional finance even with your pension and\or asset(s) (a smallholding or farm) as collateral to try and start a farming- or any other small business to become self-employed and self-sufficient.

Meanwhile, if you are unfortunate enough to have a bond (and remember, your contract states that you have to notify the bank in case your employment status changes), the banks start circling like the vultures they are ...

Speaking from first-hand experience and I also have friends and relatives that are in one or more of these situations. (This is especially prevalent in the Eastern Cape, but is (or will soon become) equally valid country-wide).

If this happens, I hope that they gift the "land" to the deserving masses, and not expect payment for it, or give loans for it. If they do, I pity the moneylenders.

You are indeed confused. That was what the EFF want to do. They wanted to nationalize ALL land for all races, black and white, and decide who can live on it or not as well as dictate what lease they must pay. This is not what the EWC amendment to the constitution comprises, which is that the government can just take your property, including improvements, and specifically only where the property owner is either white or a foreigner, a cabinet minister (not a court) can arbitrarily decide to pay nil compensation, for both the property and the improvements... oh and you must still repay the mortgage if you have one.

The EWC applies to all property. Not just land. If they take the patch of dirt your house was sitting on, they will take your house as well.

You raise a good point about what ownership actually means. However, they key difference between owning and leasing is that if you own your house, you are incentivised to improve it as your family can inherit it or you can sell it.
If the state owns your house, you can be kicked out for any reason they want, and you won't do anything to look after it as if you do anything and the state notices, they will kick you out and put one of their friends in it.

Here is a hint, don't look at the ANC like a government. Look at it like a patronage network. People only move up in the power hierarchy when people in the branches vote for them. How do you get people to vote for you? You promise them an easy job with lots of money. How do you get easy jobs that are well paid? You control the government.

NHI is nothing but a patronage network for the health minister as it will place the countries entire health system under the lminister. Just think of how many admin jobs you can hand out.
Ditto with EWC, all you need to do is promise the influencial people in your branch a nice house and you can get the state to take whatever house they want.
