Hi Guys,

I have a 1.8i golf 3.

I am Getting the ticking noise from the engine/head, not really sure what it is.

i went to one mechanic who said it was the hydraulic lifters which i did change but no difference.

the noise gets louder when i accelerate even when parked, what i have noticed is when i accelerate when driving the noise gets louder and when i put my clutch in to change a gear the noise starts to drop but makes some kind of a winding noise.

please help.

Thanks in advance guys.

Could be lots of things.
What oil do you have in it, how old is the oil?
Is oil pressure correct?
Could be injectors as well - they normally tick.
Could be worn cam lobes, could be bearing knock.

Where are you?

When i changed the lifters i also did a service and changed oil.

also did diagnostic and picked up no fault codes.

not sure if it is a bearing knock, the noise seems to be coming from the head.

Im from durban.

My first thought is that 20w50 is too viscous for your engine, but I'm more used to the later engines. What's your engine code (first 3 or 4 letters of the engine number)
