TikTok tracking activity across the web — even if you don't use the app

An investigation by Consumer Reports has found that popular video-sharing app TikTok has partnered with hundreds of organisations to collect data on people as they browse the Internet.

The organisations in question embed TikTok trackers dubbed "pixels" in their websites, which lets them gather data for ad-targeting within the TikTok app.

Yip. I won't touch TikTok with a barge pole.

However, as was the case with similar policies from Google and Facebook parent Meta Platforms, Consumer Reports found this type of data slipped through on several websites.
Pull the other one, it has bells on.

So they do what Facebook and Google do. Shocking!!!

but we should beware of the tik tok monster

If you don't pay for the product, you are the product being sold.

99% cannot fathom this conundrum.
So Tik-Tok pay websites money for my data. The website use the money to create more content..... I don't see the problem.

Install Chrome extension IPvFoo and see how many trackers are loaded when you open a website.
1) Click on the 4 IPvFoo icon extension to see what services from other sites were loaded
MyBB has some Google adservices, Google Tag Manager, LinkedIN

No wonder some sites might load slowly with all these remotes sites being accessed, then
customers complain they have slow internet.
Damn cnn.com has alot of trackers

2) Chrome - Press F12 and look under Network and see the latency for the roundtrips to the various services
sort by TIME to see which take the longest time to load

Look what country controls tik tok, and who their allies are and yes, it is more concerning than Google and FB.
