I'm not sure if this belongs in the 'PC Hardware and Gadgets' Section of the forum, but here goes nothing....

I recently got my hands on a fingerprint scanner from ZKTeco through one of our local suppliers and distributors. I was told that this scanner can be used to manage time attendance among my employees, and as such bought a unit.

Unfortunately, the software that came with the device only recognizes it as a fingerprint registration device and not a fingerprint time attendance scanner, which is driving me up the wall. The software that shipped with the device is called ZKTeco Time Management.

Is there any other software suite that I can use to handle time attendance using the ZK4500? Anything at all?

Or am I simply out of luck on this one?

It appears to be an enrollment scanner, meaning that its purpose is to enroll a person /employee on the first day, and be kept in a locked office, not to be used as the regular T&A fingerprint scanner.

You also cannot legally use it by itself for T&A in this country, the law requires T&A systems to display a clock of some sort.

Hi Ron, sorry for the late reply. I've resorted to developing an application that utilizes the scanner as the input and lookup device from our database using the API found on ZKTeco's website. I've resorted to developing this application as I couldn't find a 'plug and play' piece of software that can do what I want it to.

As for the legal issues, The device is just for capturing the fingerprint of the employee and searching the database, nothing else. The clock will shown through a PC screen that will be present alongside the thumbprint scanner
