Time for coordinated action

Well, bandwidth is all over the place again today. Perhaps 10kbs at lunchtime but more like 2-4 on average.

I'm going to propose a plan of action to embarass the hell out of Sentech, hit their business hard and get something done. I think we should form an action committee of 3-4 people, to meet, discuss and plan and action a vigorous campaign to compel Sentech to address our issues of poor performance.

The campaign as I see it would take the form of lobbying, action and communications:
1. Communications in the media - business and IT press (local and international), possibly some consumer press.
2. Lobbying of the vendors to push Sentech into delivering. After all they're going to be the ones getting it in the neck from their dissatisfied customers.
3. Lobbying IPWireless to get Sentech to deliver. IPW would surely be very concerned about their technology's reputation which would hit their ability to sell the technology and raise capital. It's funded by venture capital partners (whom we can also lobby) and surely there must be some performance or escape clause in IPW's agreement with Sentech. Venture capitalists are not nice people when their investments are at risk. 'nuff said.
4. Action - Lay charges with SAPS (as someone mentioned, dunno how far that will get but it's worth a try), lay a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority in order to get Sentech to withdraw all advertising as misleading, and get consumer bodies involved (this is a consumer rights issue, after all).

I'm prepared to volunteer. To do so, though, we need to get the support of a large number of the MyWireless subscribers. We would then need to coordinate a campaign of support to give us the authority to act on your behalf. This would give us more weight if we can say we represent 50% (for example) of users in this country. It would also help if those who support this action campaign would pledge, say, R500 to be placed in a legal trust fund to defray time and expenses.

I'm serious about this because otherwise nothing will happen. What does the community say?

Buffalo, email me on donovan@cairney.co.za

One thing I think we will definately need is full names, email addresses and telephone numbers of all disgruntled mywireless users, and keep them in some sort of database.

It would be wise to be careful of making unsubstantiated claims that hordes of people hate the service, unless we have proof BEFORE taking action. I think it's very possible we would be able to get at least 300 people.

Also, I used to be a sub agent for Nowire, so I have seen what goes on where it matters.

I reviewed my contract again and found that sentech is pretty much untouchable regarding their lack of service. I didn't see anything about contention ratio's on the contract though. The only thing I can think of that sentech could be nailed for would be false advertising.

I think it's a good idea though and will support it.

Count me in..........

Lets round up a posse and ....... HI HO SILVER......

Then ensure that we are the INDIANS in The DEMISE of GENERAL CUSTER (AKA SENT*CH)

IT would be really easy as they have no ability other than to threaten to sue us......

You can count me and my R500 in too. Who is going to start keeping the list of unhappy users?

I agree that we should also start targeting IPwireless. With there roll out plans, they do not want their image tainted by 3rd world country tactics.

Absolutely agreed. Without the consent of a large number of the community, we will have no clout. We need a database and agreements, which are then to be actioned. Much of which should then be taken offline. Obviously, there are some senior members of this forum who need to be included and they're only back after the weekend.

Sigh. Pity it has to come to this....

As an aside, I've been in conversation with IPW overseas. In response to my e-mail today:

> Do you have any idea as to what Sentech (MyWireless) problems could be?
> They're selling a 128kb service but no one gets more than 10kb and Senetch
> says it does not guarantee more than 4kb. Read here:
>
> It's not good for the international reputation of IPWireless. If I wasn't
> locked into a 24 month contract I'd have cancelled and gone ADSL.
>
A very nice and responsive guy says:

"I read through the comments on the attached link. Not good!!!

"I will personally look into this and make sure that it is addressed.

"We will have IPWireless engineers with Fastcomm and Sentech in a few weeks I
will make sure that this item is top of the list. Hang in there - once this
is resolved you will love the service."

There's more than one way to skin a cat!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Quick! Fire all the current Sentech staff and replace them with IP wireless staff ASAP.

Thats what being customer centered is all about.

Good thinking going after IPW - being an international company one would expect them to actually care about their customers...of it remains to be seen whether IPW can actually get Sentech to do anything.
And a database of users with speed issues is badly needed - more good ideas [:)]

Believe me, they do and they will. And it they don't deliver I'll go after the financiers. Careers are on the line here. And I'm not talking South Africa.

Good going Bill...

Don't you guys think it maybe better to start a MyWireless Action group or steering committee?

I have seen this work time and time again where my Customers (that's with a capital C like you spell God with a G - in case Sentech reads this) have to put up with crappy software from some of the Fortune 500 companies who like to stuff their customers. That way, there is power in numbers and regular meetings with Sentech can be held by the steering committee. Also makes spreading info easier, fundraising etc...a collective effort that Sentech (and the Press) would view a bit more seriously.

And if it has it's own website and forum, certainly no-one can sue because of it.

Any comments?

Isn't this pretty much the same thing?

Meanwhile, it's 5:00am Saturday morning and the service is only marginally better than in the middle of the week.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

"One thought, if you get any information or news that will come as a nasty surprise to MyWireless, then maybe keep in mind the fact that their corporate staffers are reading this forum, and in effect, are 'spying' on us..."

___________________________________________________________

I'm sure they are. Once the action group is formed we then take it offline and just report back on past activities. Maybe form a closed user group on groups.yahoo.com.

Guys one question........alll of us could be potential spies......

Not sure how we get to the point of a closed group?????

ON second thoughts we could string them up on the gates of HQ if we do find them....

Yup small "fight club" style groups are the best way to go to prevent Sentech subversion.

Depending on what each group achieves and past/future face-to-face linkups between members of two different groups, groups could merge.

[}:)] <- Wishes all this bother wasn't necessary ... would love to be a Sentech client with an as advertised service.

Needless to say I can be included in this as well, I'm happy to volunteer for something, and I am also willing to donate towards 'da cause'.

Now I just need to learn how to toi-toi... [:D]

Well, if you need to know another member on this forum, to join the Action group, then that lets me and a whole lot of other people out. So enjoy yourselves and your paranoid closed user groups.

Buffalobill, you did the right thing, something I suggested a few weeks ago, but got ignored. Maybe should have done what you did myself, and we would have had the engineers from IPW here already.

But seriously, so what if there are spies, you actually want them to know what you are going to do, unless it it is totaly subversive, then again "be my guest and do it without me"

Hmm. Anarchy's cool, but the problem with splinter groups and cells is that they are unstructured and unfocused. For subversive groups of this nature, time is not an issue - chip away at the core and eventually it will come tumbling down. The risk is also that the issues become emotional and not objective and ratiional. But time is not on our side and Sentech is not Big Brother. I want a decent quality service now and not next year or sometime in the future. I'm also not worried about being public about it, I have a legitimate consumer gripe and it's Sentech's inactivity and unwillingness to address its shortcomings that will have forced us into taking such actions. This is not about subversion, just activism. So, hold open meetings, tell everybody what you're doing and let everybody know. It's just the planning and specific actions that shouldn't be made public.

But wait, there's more! My contact at IPW tells me that FastComm (where do they fit into this picture?) is aware of the issue and taking steps to address it. Unfortunately, it will take 3-4 weeks to resolve. Given that we're talking SA time, it could (I guess) be longer. The good news is that IPW is taking an active interest. Maybe they weren't aware of the full extent of the problem before.

But there's still more! As happenstance would have it, a Markinor researcher stopped by my house today. It turns out she's doing market research for Telkom wanting to know about our Internet usage, access methods and so on. Interesting that in their research when they asked how I accessed the Internet, it did not include wireless, just dial-up, ISDN or ADSL. Even more interesting is that Telkom seems to be feeling the market for R340 ADSL, either on 24 month contract with free modem, or 12 month with a charge for the modem. If this is so, then they're thinking of halving the current cost although there was no mention of an additional ISP fee (the questionnnaire just said plus rental costs). I know the basic ADSL prices so I can't say about the rest, but I would guess, similar cost reductions on other Internet charges could be in the pipeline or planning stages.

Sentech, put that in your pipe and smoke it. Be afraid, be very, very afraid.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Fantasy is what people want, reality is what they need.
