I can upgrade and I know I can get the 950 and 950XL on Vodacom online as part of my contract but what about the HP Elite X3? Is there any way of getting this phone on a contract?

What other windows phones are available locally and on a contract?

The HP Elite X3 is pretty expensive and it is very doubtful the local networks will offer it on contract, whilst the Alcatel Idol 4S is currently only available on the T-Mobile network in the US. This is a great phone, so hopefully Alcatel will release an unlocked international version this year.

AFAIK, only the L950 and L950XL are the only W10M phones available in SA. I bought my wife the L650 via Orange (two days before they closed their SA shop!). She's very happy with the L650.

I'm still very happy with my L950.

Maybe just wait for them to bring out their Surface line of phones. Even stocks are light when it comes to Premium WP's these days.

When the new Surface mobile launches, I reckon it will be pretty darn expensive.

Will have to wait for third party vendors to launch their cheaper versions. Much like Yenovo/Dell/HP and others are doing with the other Surface lines, taking their design/tech queues from Microsoft and then making more mass-produced consumer orientated products.

Of course Windows Phone is dead, everybody knows that.

The future for those who dislike the Apple money-making racket/phone GUI and the Android GUI is Windows 10 on mobile ... :D

(Yes, there are a few of us left!)

I can't imagine myself using iOS and even less so the "poor man's OS"! I'll go for the 950 for now.

Don't need 19835 Fart Apps like you have for antique Android and iOS. :p

Tried, really tried to move to 'droid Nougat on my Nexus P6. Win10 Mobile on 95 XL is just a superior experience. Flogged the Nexus.
Yeah that's why so many people are using it.

Yeah that's why so many people are using it.

I have to say something here

I'm in the mobile industry and have had every OS, and virtually every manufacturer in terms of handset

One thing about Windows users, is many are those who want to get things done from a work perspective. Decent spec windows devices from a productivity point of view will rip both Android and IOS devices to shreds

The problem is people who use Droid and Ios devices, have this mindset that you need to have at least 100 apps installed, while windows owners have the essential ones installed and that can be like 3 to 8 at most

Windows devices were never created to be used in the way Apple and Android users use them.

The Surface devices are unbelievable, but their pricing is the reason not many people will have them. If they were affordable, I can guarantee you, people would sit up and take notice.

Interesting, Icemanbrfc.

Also interesting in a different way is why backstreetboy feels the need to weigh in with inane comments on a Win Mobile thread for and by obviously keen, knowledgable and experienced Win Mobile users.
@backstreetboy: We really do understand the issue very clearly. You might be surprised to find that it's not we are ignorant of the options out there, but you.

Oh he does the same with Apple.

He simply doesn't fathom that someone else might work differently than he does and therefore works better and faster on a platform other than Android.

I loved my Windows Phone mostly, ultimately the lack of Google Apps killed it for me.

Lol Windows Phone is dead. Move on already.
Agreed. However:

I've found that Win phones are a pretty good value proposition for the low tech crowd though.

- They come with remarkably little bloatware. Loads of MS stuff is there but its all crazy light weight.
- Interface is reasonably simply once you get used to the tiles thing
- They're good bang per buck on the whole

I wouldn't buy one...but can def see value in it. Pretty sure I'm gonna have to organise some of fam 2nd hand phone after MS stops producing them...cause they're not going to want android/ios

Well written and so filled with truth. We have a proper/decent browser as work horse not requiring Apps to function ☺

Interesting, Icemanbrfc.
