Tinnitus - the sound of Silence

Just a quick one on my experience with tinnitus. About 15 years ago I decided to give up drinking Coke due to all sugar. A few weeks later the ringing started. A lot of Googling later I learned that aspartame is evil stuff and should be avoided. So that took TAB off the list of drinks as well. Took about a month for the ringing to stop.

TAB has been discontinued for years.

Have also had it for 5+ years. Manageable but a constant buzz.
Still at the point where I can ignore it, but when it's quiet all I can hear is zzzz.
If I get really tired/lack of sleep I find it gets worse.

It's currently louder than the traffic, birds and neighbours dogs barking, hence the anxiety. Otherwise I live with it, no problem.

ENT is probably my next stop.

Okay, that's next level and I would also be driven mad.
I did not even know it could become so bad :(

Good luck I hope the doctors can help you.

But aspartame is artificial sweetener - are you saying you started drinking coke zero/lite?

My sound test dies at around 8700 Hz. Most likely the culprit looks like this.

Get to about 13k and then it sounds the same as my tinnitus.

There is still no hard proof that aspartame is bad for you. Yes, maybe in large quantities but then everything in large quantities will kill you.
My tinnitus started shortly after I started drinking TAB. It disappeared roughly a month after I stopped drinking it. Either the colour of the tin or coincidence then.

Tinnitus is also with me. Has been a thing now at least 16 years. I have learned to live with it and treat it like white noise.

I have tinnitus too, but I suppose I am lucky because it sounds more like that white noise from a CRT. It's worse at night when everything is quiet. It bugs me at times, but I have accepted it as part of life now.

There's another possible side to this (doesn't mean Tinnitus isn't real either)

Beyond its medical implications, this phenomenon carries a rich tapestry of spiritual significance for many. While acknowledging the potential medical causes of tinnitus, various spiritual traditions offer other interpretations of this experience and delve into its possible deeper metaphysical implications.

I have it too, like a high-pitched hiss. Occasionally it's quiet, but mostly load enough to compete with things like my wife's white noise generator app.
