Learn to burp a baby properly is the best advice I can give after 3 kids. You don't burp them by patting their back, it just irritates them, you need to "squeeze" it out. Also patting a baby too hard can actually hurt them and sometimes this can be serious.
* Rest the baby against your chest with head above your shoulder, important to keep your baby upright.
* Place your open hand against their lower back just above the bum.
* Press firmly against the back and then gently move the hand up towards the upper back - same to rubbing their back but just firmly.
* Repeat until you get a mother of a burp!
At first one is too scared to do this as they feel so fragile but after a few attempts you will get it right become a burp master. My sister in law taught me this technique.
Also do not be afraid to take advice from big mammas, don't dismiss 10'000 years of rural experience because we live in a modern age.
We used dr browns.
tnx for all the replies![]()
Got to see our lil baba today via scan. those fingers and toes are soooooo small n cute.
When can 1 do a 4D scan ? how many weeks before 1 can do a 4D scan ?
i was told only later (3rd trimester ?) can a 4D scan be done.
You can do it at any stage. We got one i think in 2nd trimester for the first. But obviously the further on they get the better detail you can get out of it. I can recommend a 4d scan professional if you're in Cape Town.
Get yourself a set of Yoomi bottles. One of our best baby buys ever!!! No more struggling to warm the milk when you are out an about.
Sing to your baby.
Your voice comforts, it also creates vibrations that assist in winding/burping.
It also teaches words/vocabulary.
My favorite is Tupac but the little one prefers some TI.
That tupac song where he curses out everybody? Lol. Reminded me how people reacted when the taxi driver played that! Lol. Well funny!
I can never remember words so I hum or make up my own lullaby!
To the OP: lots of good advice here. Our daughter is 21 months now and it's been an amazing journey so far. Even though we were lucky not to experience cholic or a bad sleeper, there were MANY times in the first 6 months that I can remember pacing around the lounge in the early hours of the morning trying to get her to sleep / stop crying. My advice is to have a system whereby you give the child to your partner when you feel yourself getting frustrated. You know those reports you have read about a parent getting so wound up that they shook/ threw their child? That frustration is very real and you WILL experience it ( not saying we follow through with hurting our babies though) and you will need to hand your child over and calm down. My wife and I would say "swap" when things got too much and it worked well!
Wife is starting to whine in my ear about a second one but I am not so sure......

Also we seen starter kits (Pigeon had a kit) with 3 bottles etc. is this a good kit ?
