I read it as pre-christmas treats. ;)

it's opportunistic really.. I like that they check for the sake of catching thieves etc but at the same time i think it's old school and outdated and due for a massive change. i.e. you should have a QR code on there and basic details which do not change. Similarly our Id & drivers license should be electronic.. The successful implementation of the drivers licence card has shown the viability of doing so ironically.. so whether or not its printed on a special page is immaterial.

I've never gone through one of those road worthy check roadblocks.. usually just disk checks +/- speed fine checks but since i don't speed and only get caught out when boards missing or waze has wrong speed i've not had issues.

In all seriousness, everyone has a right to make a choice on this matter. The gentleman above chose convenience over everything else. The other day while on a queue at a tollgate, I watched enviously as other cars were streaming past in the "tag lane".

Some one needs to alert the union whose members operate all the toll booths on the freeways, e-Tolls are going to lead to job losses. Hopefully they and their members organize a protest or two.

Seems like it’s coming to national routes near everyone.

They tried that in Cape Town and we showed them the finger in court.

Taxis and other forms of public transport are excluded from e-tolls in a pact struck by former president Jacob Zuma

Taxis may transport the public but they are private transport.. Do the exemptions apply to airport shuttles, sedan taxis, long distance buses ? ?

I'm expecting the govt to implement other taxes in order to make up for the shortfall.

Time to find a desert and start living like a hermit then.

I go through tolls about twice in summer, not so often in winter, but I've thought it would be nice to have one of those for the etag lanes at Marrianne Hill and on the way to Ballito. If I ever did, I'd remove it for the bi-annual JHB trips, just after the last toll on the way there.
