to all N8 users

What do you mean by "No DRM"? You cannot play the downloaded OVI music unless you play it on your registered PC and of course the N8. A DRM remover program is to be used to clear the DRM from the music. No issue anyway.

Like I said, I downloaded tons of songs through OVI, played them on my brother's PC fine. No problems.
Okay, one was the new single from Britney Spears (:o) and being the slut she is, perhaps that could be the reason my songs enjoyed being played on more than one PC.
:D

Who buys a Symbian phone when there is Android/iOS out and about

Seriously

:wtf:
Different people have different needs. This whole Android/iOS > all thing is seriously getting annoying.

Because some may be fed up with their Android-running HTC....
;-)
Android is heavily overdone. You only interested in the makeup. Take that away, and you left with something that resembles a prune. Symbian shows no false pretenses with flashy makeup. It's the reliable housewife. Whereas Android is the highschool cheerleader - sure, she's hot, but they're a dime-a-dozen.

iOS, is the Kim Kardashian and her family. Hot - yes. Reliable? - debatable. With the family support behind her, you kinda have to go with the flow.

:)

PS.

Kim's super hot.
:)

And I'm sure that crap cameras and navigation software is enough of a reason for N8 users to stay away from Android/iOS phones :P

Most reasonable people use thier phones for other things more than they use thier phones' camera or nav software, slow phones are a thing of 2009, ill never get a slow phone ever again.

to each its own, the n8 is pretty good, even the OS runs pretty well.
Plus i use my phone as a little HD media player to conect to my tv, couldnt find any symbian or IOS phone that does that

Not even to speak about the usb interface. Add a keyboard and mouse and you have a Cell "PC" linked to a HDMI screen.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that it's slow from. Good for you for not getting a slow phone ever again, way to show us :)

if I spent 90% of my time using the nav software and the camera (excluding actually launching it... lol ) then you have a valid point.

IRL people spend most of the time doing actual navigating on a phone. And while a N8 is not THAT slow when using it, its a snail when next to any android phone.

Comes down to needs I guess :)

Wrong.

Take an HTC Hero, upgrade the OS with an official Android 2.3. Wait. Oh, that's right, it can't run 2.3. Okay use 2.1 OS.
Take the Hero and benchmark it against Nokia N8. Using the OpenGL 2.0 for mobiles. Wait, oh tht's right, the Hero can't run the benchmark.

Hmm.

Symbian^3 is more efficient than Android. Android UI is sexier - no doubt.
So when the UI update is released for Symbian^3, you can compare.

Rounding off - using my N8 is faaar enjoyable than having to load a hacked OS onto my Android phone just to be able to download newest apps available on the marketplace.
Even then, apps designed for Android 2.2 are not guaranteed to run well on phones designed to run Android 2.1

;-)

I paid R5799 for an HTC Hero 9 months ago (Less than a year old!!!!). I now paid R4999 for an N8 only 3 weeks ago. So therefore I can compare the two.
I also compare it to the Hero because I USED TO OWN ONE. Therefore I can compare them, and the comparison is valid.
But to make it more fair for you here is another comparison..

Even though the Desire has a "1Ghz Snapdragon" processor, it matters little.
Fact is, if you run Android 2.1/2.2 you may not be able to run all applications designed for Android 2.3
Much more so, if you don't have a new-ish Android phone running 1.6.

if you do that comparison you can compare android to an N97... and those are horribly slow :)

play on a samsung galaxy S, after you've used your n8, and you will get what we mean :) my friend with his N8 thought it was as quick as lightning, used my phone for a bit, and thought his phone was sluggish :) when i used the n8 for a week, it was noticably slower than the Galaxy. That said, it can't be beaten on the media front :)

I can't speak for a Galaxy S. That being said, I believe it is faster than a Desire.

What I can say is that after using an HTC Hero with firmwares ranging from 1.5 (stock) to a customised 2.3 one - the N8 is definitely snappier.
Not only that, but when the Hero was released one could not transfer files over bluetooth. Fine, so an update would fix that. Problem is that was resolved only in 2.1 which was released waaay later to the Hero.

Anyway, I tried to find an Android-running HTC from Lab88 for roughly R4999, but came up empty handed. The closest I found was the Desire Z. And even then, it was almost a full R1000 more expensive (it was released to worldwide markets roughly the same time as the N8..

Edit:

I think I should just come out and say it..

I actually prefer the apps on the homescreen on the N8 than Sense UI on Android.
I actually make use of all the apps on the homescreens more than I did with the HTC.

I've always said I like Android (it's UI actually), but I do prefer the N8. Simple as that.
Different strokes for different folks...
;)

dude you cant compare on price, come on! :wtf: you need to compare on when the phone was released, AND based on the level of the phone. Yes of course price does play a part, but you cant say R5000 for this phone and R6000 for that phone (6 months apart....) thats like a lifetime in technology terms.

bottom line is the N8 is their "flagship" so you need to compare it to another flagship.... only makes sense.

N8 next to the HTC Desire HD (both released in October 2010) is rather rather sad for the Nokia user....

But hey, I'd also be bitter if someone told me that :p

I kinda get what iDenTiTy is saying but that comparison cannot work. These devices changes too much too quickly. I spent more on my n82 than on my n8.
