Heh - I came to the thread late - so here's my 2 cents :p

I found Prophecies a tad too slow - it has a really even learning curve - but it takes ages to level and get to Lion's Arch, which is sort of where the actual campaign really begins.

Factions was a little too fast - just doing the normal grind I got my character to level 20 in the space of 5 or 6 hours. But it looks spectacular - I liked the whole Chinese/Japanese theme they had going - but the missions in Kaineng annoyed the living cr@p out of me.

Nightfall was just the most balanced for me - like Lydon said, the addition of heroes made things more solo-oriented - but I enjoyed that aspect. My main character is a Nightfall dervish ... and my second character is a Prophecies elementalist.

I usually recommend people start with Nightfall - if they're completely new to it I've found the slow pace of Prophecies puts some of the people with lesser amounts of patience off the game. I'm glad I kept going though :D

I would recommend you get them all, but start with Prophecies. There's no need for heroes. We did fine with them for years until they were introduced. I don't like them actually as they made the game too solo-oriented.

Lol, Ill even take zhed over most Pugs :p

so you cant use an asassin build in proph because it is not originally available? Even iff you have all of them installed...?

You can play an assassin in proph you just have to get of the noob area in factions first :D

/grins from ear to ear

Well the IGN is Kage Ketueki

What campaigns do you have now?

Well last night, I played for about 6 hrs...playing with an asassin with mesmer as a secondary.

Here are my thoughts so far.
Asassin is a great profession, fast and lethal. It is a hit and run job with quick combos but suffers greatly at the early stages against mages on a solo run.
I was at level 5 last night when I did something stupid  and sold all my armour to get new armour and ran out of cash to buy the new armour.

So I had a choice, run around naked in the square with everyone laughing at you literally or start over with the current knowledge of the game. So I decided on the latter.

I was able to play about an hour or 2 with mesmer as a secondary and it really could work. Ether feast is nice with 20 health per energy point lost...this will be extremely helpful for the asassin that can spam Ether Feast and Shadow Refuge.

So it could be very useful as a secondary profession.

Slow in a Guild Wars sense of course. Compared to other MMOs and really quick :D

That's what I miss about Guild Wars. Despite dying over and over again, the days of PUGing were the best days of my Guild Wars "career." I miss the guys standing around in Lion's Arch looking for people to help with The Villainy of Galrath, grabbing a team then missioning all the way to the Temple of the Ages where we could make a larger group only to die over and again due to our terrible builds, but somehow manage to finish the quests. Now you just see people running around with a "4" over the heads all the time.

If you want pugging go to the "elite" areas. Still plenty of team work there ;)

Heh ... I still hop down to Ascalon from time to time ... gather up a group of newbies and drag them through their quests - it's good for my ego :D

Then I go back to NF or EotN to get my butt handed to me on a silver platter by the mobsies.

Bruised ego ... guess where I go ... it's a vicious cycle :p

I only really do PvP these days as PvE has lost its magic for me without other people to play with (I cba to stand around spamming "LFG" all day lol). Fort Aspenwood mainly. I just press Enter Battle and the game does the PUG-ing for me

I've tried that a few times, but have found I lose my patience with many of them running off when I say "stay." :D

What campaigns do you have now?

Well I have all the campaigns and playing in Factions for now.

It has a steepish learning curve, which made me realise that solo is only going to work agains the mantids...I had my arse handed to me with a smile by skull ritualists and raiders until I went back and fetched some henchies from the Monastery.

The internet was very slow last night, more than usual, so I want to check it out tomorrow or so to check the lag...a lot of teleportation happened last night. :D

I want to get to level 10 with solo play first to get my bearings and go from there.

Which District do you guys play in? I see that the international active one is quite nice and quiet.

What is the "4" over their heads and I saw that some people had "numbers" over their heads?

I vary ... I usually hop onto the American servers when I want to join a group for a dungeon run or similar - otherwise I hang around and do my own thing on the EU servers. The American servers tend to be the busiest though - so if you want to mission with other players - that's the place to be.

:D I know exactly what you mean. The funniest would be when I see a level 4 or 5 necro charging a group of level 8 Char ... and then moaning at me because he died. *lol*

It shows that they are party leaders - and the number over their heads are the number of members in the party.

You are hiring NPC henchmen to assist you and aren't totally solo-ing, right? Because if you aren't, I think you'll find life much easier with them ;)

The number above a person's head indicates the size of their party.

That I noticed very quickly when I ran into my first party of Skulls...it took about 5 seconds to die the first time...

I'm remembering so much of my days as a new player. Some of the things I would do were hilarious, such as being an Elementalist but filling my bar with mostly Mesmer skills, or getting a quest and running miles and miles to get to where I needed to be when I could simply have teleported there if I had looked at my map. Good times!

Yep ... the Rits are pretty evil - their spells take a while to cast, but they do some serious damage. Just wait till you run into your first Rit boss.

A bit of advice - if you ever see a little ball of light rising from the point where you're standing ... MOVE!! If you're an assassin and you have some sort of shadow-stepping skill available use it. Otherwise, just strafe away. If spirit rift hits you, chances are you won't walk away.

Haha, I was just about to say the same thing. It's hilarious watching that little ball grow and people running away in panic.

I find that I get the best pings in American districts. It's fine with me as everyone seems to have migrated to them and they're teeming with people as opposed to European districts.

Ok...what is the easiest way to get armour?
Tha armour system is VERY diferent from any other RPG I have ever played...to get basic items to contruct and then still pay for it takes some getting used to.
