23, Ive never opened a MB, but I have seen the inside of one,

But hey, if some how you can justify the price of an Apple product then by all means spend your hard earned money on that product.

I will do so, gladly, again and again.
Especially for that battery life... and the fact that it always works..

Macs appear to be cooler/trendier but they are also a better fit for designers. Apple has carved out a reputation for being the ‘alternative’ choice for those that see themselves as an individual, which is what art is all about.

But it’s not just about image. Macs tend to be the best platform for design and creativity due to the strength of the applications available for it and the fact that Macs are generally high quality computers.

This and the image of using a Mac make up the perfect team for those that see themselves outside the corporate culture.

I would replace designers with most people who work.

Disagree.

Agree, except for this 'image' thing.

not only designers sir...

network engineers as well. OP wants to use for this and i do as well. Most services by default is on.

As well I deal with a lot of tech at IS and most of them prefer the OSX. build quality and speed of it makes it perfect for us and as well battery life. I can go entire day on working with it and get home with 30%+ battery. Windows laptop i would have to charge in between somewhere.

Personally dont care about image. I just want something that can work and fast. People always ask me how is it and will always say this: best purchase ever made.

To Mac or not to Mac should not be the Q.

The Q should be - to MBP 13" or MBP 15", that is the Q

13" is a very nice trade off between portability and being a desktop replacement. The 15" is better at functioning as a desktop replacement. It's not too heavy to lug around, but it is quite bulky. I had a 13" MBA before the rMBP and carried it everywhere I went and the 13" rMBP should be just as flexible.

While I cannot fault Apple's hardware and software, you are better off buying something else if you live in SA

Apple's hardware support (provided by core) in SA is horrible. They have no commitment to service levels and you can expect repairs (even in warrantee) to take anything from 7 to 20 working days. My iPhone has been with them since the 24th and they still can't even tell me when I will have it fixed or replaced.

In the States, it is a different story altogether... Your device is typically repaired within an hour.

The problem lies with CORE which is rotten to the core. They charge hugely inflated prices and have no spare parts in stock to service even the latest flagship models.

Unless you can afford to be without your business tools, rather buys something which has same or next day business support.

The other alternative is to buy two Apple devices then you at least have one spare when the other is in for repairs.

Core are useless but there are other avenues for repairs - Digicape springs to mind.

I've yet to have to make use of any of the locals when it comes to repairs - except for a DOA ipod many years back.

Will Digicape honour a warrantee claim on a product bought form iStore?

AFAIK they're an authorised service agent so they should. I know they've handled recalls etc in the past
