Hi all,

So I am getting really fed up with my slow ADSL and have been looking at the cell c offers of R1499 for 2gb for 12 months and R2999 for 5b for 12 months.

I have read some good reviews and some bad, and from previous experience I loathe Cell C with a passion, so will it prove me wrong or just be the dissapointment I expect?

Futhermore, once your bundle data is finished is there a way to top up?

And are there new packages coming?

Location to be used: boksburg

Thanks in advance.

Your very first consideration is whether you are in a Whooooosh area.

I'll let that speak for itself.

Just my current experience, can't speak for anyone else.

I'm in a totally covered area btw.

You should be covered. In the far east rand I even get speeds up to 1.5 Mb/s albeit with using a makeshift antenna! I got the 60GB deal for use in PTA but also tested in the far East of JHB. It's still the best mobile deal but I am not sure if I would replace my ADSL as yet. Apparently CellC is to announce new deals soon or at least a very niche router. (Now where is the CellC informant when you need him?) All in all I am still happy some wit CellC. CellC are also improving their towers so I feel with the 60GB package over the year you should be covered. (touch wood)

yeah checked that to start, area seems to be fully covered by the map (i.e in red)
So is Copa... he is in a BLOOD red zone!

Try and loan a unit and do a test at your place. If reception is good, go for it!

Bought the Whoosh in December and haven't regretted it once. Works great!

If you prepay, you can topup as you would for voice calls.

I contacted them and received an e-mail about a week later. At that point I just realized I didn't have the patience to deal with them, frankly.

*edit*

To be fair to Cell-C, I forgot to leave a contact number and I think if I had done so they would likely have gotten ahold of me sooner and would have assisted me if possible.

I must actually contact them again and try sort things out.

I should have mine back mid week (it's with my daughter). We can make arrangements to test then if someone closer in the mean time do not offer their help.

Also try and find out where the tower is situated in relation to where you want to use it mostly.

If you in a proper area and happy with the bandwidth limit its all good, like in my case it beats adsl hands down as I have 2 x 5 gig accounts and dont need more than that.

You can top up with Data bundles on pre-paid if you really need that extra, some people also get better results with external antenna's

Best advice I can give is to find someone with a cell c sim on a smartphone and get them to run speedtest and decide from there.

thanks man will really appreciate that :D

would be awesome if the stores offered a loan unit with like even 50mb on that could be taken out with putting a deposit down.

yeah I am not to stressed about a huge cap, at home it is mainly browsing and barely use that much cap, will also come out cheaper than just the line rental.

What's wrong with the 7 day return policy Cell-C already have?

Good point.

TO OP: make SURE you have coverage buying it and not getting coverage remains your responsibility according to the contract you sign (basically). Also note the 7 day return policy and ask the store to indicate on the contract which is the last day to return the product (as they will take in to account days they are not open and this will be binding on them).

Ideally borrow someones to test it at your place, and test it at 10 am, 4 PM, 8PM and 10 pm using speedtest and pintest.net (because the 7 day return policy loses you some cash if I'm not mistaken for paperwork)

It might also be interesting to note that once you have established you do have signal coverage at the location where you intend to use the package, even after the 7-day probationary period you have the right to cancel your contract if the operator then ceases to provide the original signal at that location. This actually happened to me, and with great reluctance my ISP (at that time MWeb) agreed to cancel my contract prematurely without penalty....

Echo what he said. Also keep in mind if you test around the end of the month we've seen month-end slowdowns due to everyone trying to finish their caps before losing it.

I would really like to avoid hassle, thus I like the idea of loaning a unit, the 7 day return policy is surely going to come with hassle, let alone the penalty as indicated by mightmuffin man.

My point is if they had the facility for potential customers perhaps they would have more customers signing up, and satisfied that is ;)
