To Rain or not to Rain, that is the question.

So I've been following the entire Rain 5G thing, with the fear of my Telkom ADSL being disconnected any time now lurking in the background. 2 of my friends in very close proximity have already got their Telkom LTE devices and copper disconnected.

Now that the router is free if you order today, I'm very tempted to just jump the bandwagon and go for it, and try my best to get my Telkom cancelled myself ASAP. Even though I am on the coverage map, I'm right on the edge of it so I'm not guaranteed anything until I get the physical device here at my house. Lots of trees in the area.

What is Rain's cancellation policy if things don't work as intended? I have logged a ticket regarding this a couple of days ago already with no response from them. It's also a bit worrying the reports I have been seeing from 5G users the last couple of days here on the forum, with severely fluctuating speeds. Teething issues, or a sign of things to come?

@Cancellation policy. Got told of a Rain Rep after holding for 17 minutes (probably swamped due to these deals) that if you cancel within 30 days you are not bound to the contract and you return the CPE.

Think I'm gonna try it.

Good chance they will set you up with outdoor unit if signal is questionable.

You're aware it's a 24 month contract for this supposed special?

Thinking of giving this a try, but I'm a few meters out of the coverage map, is it even worth the trouble? I mean try it, if it doesn't work I send it back.

If anything he has more leverage seeing that he has contract with them and they need to keep minimum level of service AKA "speed". What that minimum speed is is still an unknown.

Did you sign up to be notified of coverage? If not do that first. Then when you do come onto radar you will be alerted. It's what I did. I was on fringe and then coverage changed about a week later. You can also just give "covered" address but you run the risk not getting refund if it does not work.

Give it a try. Their systems will not activate you until you receive a minimum speed of 80mbs. You also have one month to cancel without penalties.

Fibre is not available in my area and given the prices per gig of LTE I chose to go with Rain. I've been using their services for a month and a bit now and I've honestly never been happier. In my case at least it was worth it.

Happy for you guys. As long as you're not in my area. Leave mah contentions!!!
LOL. The area I live in had me surprised that we even got 5G. There is barely ADSL (lots of cable theft), 4G signal is horrible (Vodacom) so when I saw I was covered on 5G I was really surprised.

They picking the low hanging fruit. Target old dying ADSL rich environments prone to outages, no prospects of FTH, with a product at a similar price point at unheard of speeds. Simple. At least that's how I would have approached it.

RAIN 5G has affordability, speed and quick implementation on its side. Something Fiber does not have in either of those categories. Stability on the other hand is something that will cancel out all three of those strategic advantages if they are not careful. Only time will tell.
