I want to buy my mother a decent TV, she normally just watches soapies and news. I think a 32inch is big enough for her and my budget is sitting at R2500.

My first option is the Diamond 32inch from Hi-Fi Corp and it retails for R1999, I have read a few threads about how it is a Hi-Fi Corp product and I should stay away. But with Sansui there's mixed reviews... any help is appreciated. (Sansui is R2300 at Hi-Fi Corp)

Sansui, it's a well known brand, miles ahead of the Diamond brand, also the check Sinotech.

Sansui would be on the same boat as Diamond, JVC and Telefunken, it's a rebranded Chinese make that won't guarantee quality. Look at Sinotec,Hisense if you looking at the cheaper brands. The sinotec is R2599 at Makro as I don't see any Sansui for R2399 on Hifi corp

Nope don't do it.

Stick to a Samsung, LG or even HiSense who actually make the panels and don't just rebrand other people's B-grade stuff.

My mum and dad bought a hisense back in DBN, when I went to visit noticed that the calibration was off. Tried my best to get the picture perfect but the menu was limited, ended up taking the tv and storeing it in the garage and got them a Samsung much better. Not to ditch the Hisense brand I believe the smaller tv are not to good however their bigger smarter tv are better but that's what I heard, I always had Samsung Tvs and I think I will still stick with them.

Yeah they've seen a major improvement in the last year or two, before that not so great.

But always remains a case of getting what you pay for and cheap/small is always going to be exactly that.

Even from the reputable brands they also still have cheap and nasty product lines.

There is actually a secret menu you get with Hisense, don't ask me why. It's more for technical refinements but it does help with getting the picture right.

Get a Sinotec. Its decent if you dont need all the smart functionalities like Wifi and so on. It does play stuff off USB so that is nice.

You can normally get a 32" for sub R2500 on special
