How can Zille be the mayor of CT and the leader of DA? Doesn't she have enough to do?

She could resign her mayorship.

Oh, please no. She will be more effective in her current position and in a couple of years when delivery is visible, she will be in a very strong position compared to JC. CT can't afford to lose her.

On topic, how respectable does it seem that Tony knows he doesn't have a chance and is putting others interests ahead of his own personal ambitions. Refreshing in this political climate in SA.

This could do good to refresh their image and appeal to more voters. I wonder if their somewhat detracted image will change too (so they no longer just a opposition)

Don't you think strong party leadership is just as important? Hopefully there is someone just as formidable as Zille to fill Leons shoes.

I do agree, strong leadership is important. But headhunting out of key local positions is a bad move. If CT can do really well will Zille leading it, imagine the image the DA will have as a party that actually gets things done.

Getting things done is more important in my opinion that some opposition mouthpieces in Parliament that are largely not effective to change things.

By implication a person that has a proven track record is the correct candidate. It is a new visionary process from the DA it seems. The tactics worked in CT so it should work elsewhere. Tony was always a voice, never aggressive. I think it is time for change as the political arena has changed and it requires some grid iron stuff to get SA back on track. Helen Zille has bite and bark.

The DA needs a black leader. It's the only way they'll even begin to shed their stigma of being a "white" party with the voting public.

It's interesting to note that when Leon quits he will be elligible for a full ministerial pension for the rest of his life warmly funded by the generous taxpayers of South Africa.

Is that Ministerial or Parliamentary?

So with all ex Parliamentarians. It is the smallest of SA’s worries. Anyway it has not been said he retires as MP. Why should they not have a pension benefit – it is a job as all are doing. I am not a MP.

What I'm trying to find out is does the Leader of the Opposition get a Ministerial Pension or does he get a normal MP pension?
