Hi all,

So having been suffering from lower back pain for some time now, I am looking to go to a lower-income clinic to get it sorted. Students from different varsities practice there so it shouldn't be too bad..
As to the question at hand, is it wrong of me to go this route seeing as how these institutions are more for people living below the bread-line and while I can afford a doctor to get me sorted, I don't have medical aid(have hospital cover) and not in the mood to pay R800+ for a consultation.

Lets stay on topic please and not make this a doctors study for years and can charge what ever they feel like thread once again...

I went to Pretoria academic a few times for teeth and after spending 4 days in a row there, having a tooth filled then filling breaks out few hours later 3 times in a row was not fun.
Then they told me I need root canal to fix it (still do not have root canal), its a R1000 deposit for the waiting list and that is 6 months.
I ended up with a drilled out tooth for about a year before I was able to afford a real dentist.

Anyway, if you don't mind the long wait (hours in waiting room) and sub par repairs go for it.

i went to a physio..he charged me r400 per session ..did the checks and hotpack and massage and machine schit and done

week later the pain is back there again

so went to physios at UWC ...they are students and they charged like r70 for 3 sessions

the 1st session was check up massage ..the 2nd was finding the pain and tips on stretches and stuff

it worked out better for me since they indentified the problem

so yes in my experience they are better

If you don't mind the wait, why not? Clinics are there to benefit all, so I don't see the issue.

If you cant afford private health care then you need to use public. You might think you are above it, but if you cant afford private. Then you are not. Ive used public healthcare before I was involved with medical aids.

If you paid your taxes I don't see why you should not use the facilities.

Personally I'd rather get a personal loan & suffer financially. Spine, neurological & vital organs I don't fck around with - I'll pay whatever it takes.

For minor wounds - I know a guy who is good at patching things with fishing line. Pro tip: You can apply aspirin topically too with a bit of cotton wool & water. NB pet owners too.

Are you sure you phoned the right place?
lmao - best comment in thread.

My wife has suffered from serious back pain for over 20 odd years ever since a car turned a corner and rolled on top of her and her sister in law and it is sometimes so bad that she was unable to get out of bed or dress herself. A few years back our daughter sent her a device called a Pinook Mini Massager and we thought it was an MP3/4 player as it was plastic and weighed nothing until we read the paperwork and boy does this thing kick. You have various settings from acupuncture to deep massage and you will poop in your pants if you don't know what you doing although it's as simple as turning on a mp3 player. We tried it on my dad who had a problem with his wrist and it worked so well he ordered his online and has had one for a few years.

The problem is I don't think you can get it here. It is also so small you can keep the setup in your pocket.
