Surely a dog would be racist only if it's taught to be that way by racist owners?

I mean, something like that can't be instinct or in it's genes, can it?

A dog can be kind of "racist" if that is even the right word for it.

We have a dog that was rescued from the township fighting rings and it hates black people from the day we got it, I can only assume it relates black people to the way it was treated back when they forced him to be a bait dog, but I don't think it was born to hate either colour.

I've often wondered about racist dogs, I have 3 dogs at home and the pitbull doesn't bark at people at all, only other animals, the Beagle will bark at anything that moves and the Jack Russel will tend to single out blacks to bark at.
I didn't teach him that, and I do not treat blacks any different than whites, that is with respect and politeness.
I have also noticed that as a white in a black neighborhood, their dogs will bark at me.

I've seen a Dogo in person and those things are vicious and bloody scary. They'd top my list.

The majority of them are, they get a bad rap because they are often used for fighting. In reality they are loving and loyal dogs.

Mine usually confuses lick and bite... but the bite is gentle.

I dont really class pitbulls,staffies and bull terriers are big dogs (danes etc are big dogs to me) but very strong medium breeds are the best. They have such personalities and dont suffer from as many problems as your giant breeds do.

Bull terriers are such clowns, awesome dogs those.

That's such BS!
If a dog is reared in a black neighborhood, it will bark at white people.
The reverse is also true.
It's simply a "new" type of human being that it's not used to and doesn't trust.
The same with kids, if your dog has never been around kids - it won't trust them, it's not used to these strange looking, sounding and short human beings.

That being said, my Boerboel doesn't care whether you are white, black or pink - he goes ape**** if anyone he doesn't know comes close to his yard.
Now that's the kind of protection you want.
No favouritism, I don't know you - you ain't coming in.

Oh and he's an absolute gem with the kids.
Just don't be stupid - teach kids from a young age not to tease dogs, e.g. pull it's ears, fur whatever. Because at some stage the dog will get fed up and lash out - and unfortunately it can only do so with big teeth!
