The fuel consumption on the Haval makes it a no go. Way too many complaining that real time figures are a lot worse than manufacturer claims.

I'd also avoid it if it uses fule.

"It is worth mentioning that the first model up from the Jolion City, the Luxury, is only R5,900 more expensive than the XUV300 W8 at R342,900 – and does substantially improve what the Jolion offers."

Then why did you compare these 2 models??

I am very impressed with Mahindra, they have considerably upped their game, it makes most of the Hyundai/Kia crossovers in the same class look very ridiculous.

Are other key factors for long term ownership also good? Parts availability, reliability etc

I believe so, Mahindra has been in SA for years now, their bakkie is a very trusted workhorse in the farms and construction industry, there shouldn't be any concerns with parts.

On reliability I have honestly not heard anyone complain but I also don't know anyone who owns one, although I think the internet would be full of complaints if there were any. Besides their bakkie they have not been a high volume seller so it's also hard to get real life experiences.

In case it was not clear enough Aussie is an excellent country to compare Haval/Gravel stats, Euroland does not get any of their vehicles, Aussieland gets all the RHD options + a very similar climate.
