These top games have servers in South Africa

South African gamers often have to play popular online multiplayer games at a competitive disadvantage.

This is the consequence of being at the southernmost tip of the poorest continent on the planet, while most of the world's gaming servers are in the northern hemisphere.

@Jan Dota2 does have local servers, specifically for unranked there is but not for Ranked matches,

Specifically said no because ranked is not available. And that sort of defeats the whole purpose of competitive gaming, does it not?

I used to get the IT lads to host private servers here if I wanted to play WoW a while back.

Good days. All the noobs always bwwwa'd

I've played too many unranked games where the players are sweaty one would think its ranked.

But have added a note on that.
I see you edited it to say "No, unranked only"

Should it not be "Yes, unranked only" as the question is, does it have local servers?

Anyway, for future readers, Dota2 does have local server for unranked games but not for ranked games.

That leaves studios with a conundrum.

They could either offer localised servers that can result in gamers having to wait long in lobbies but enjoy low ping, or connect them to high latency overseas-based options that guarantee they will load into a game quickly.
Oooooorrrrrrr, they could stop the microtransaction bullsh*t and allow players to host their own servers

Rust also doesn't have any official SA servers, but has a few local community servers

I guess its understandable in SA its a very niche interest, compared to something as big as Rugby or Soccer.
then there is the load shedding and internet issues we have,

Gaming in SA isnt big like in South Korea for instance.
