Hi all,

My top PCI Express 16 port broke when taking out my GFX card this afternoon and bent all the pins (the plastic part came off).

If I run my GFX card in the second PCI port will it run at x16 or x8? And if it runs at x8 will this make a noticeable difference when pushing the Gfx card (VR Gaming with SS)

Mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
GPU: 1070

Thanks

I'd be more worried about a short nuking your whole system when you turn it on than that.
I turned it on briefly and it seemed to work.. Resolution was terrible and then seemingly reverted to normal.

I guess none of those needles are making contact with one another, but I am worried going forward. Presumably it isn't something that can be repaired?

The msi website states the following for the mobo :

3 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, (support x16, x8/x8, x8/x4/x4 modes)

So it's a bit ambiguous as to whether having the second PCI express 16 port is at x8 or x16

No, it is quite simple - it is configurable to x16 for the top slot, or x8 + x8 (top and second) or x8 top, x4 second, x4 third.

Thanks, but does that suggest that a single card in the second slot will still be able to operate at x16 or at x8 only. Or that it's only limited to x8 when in sli?

Install GPU-Z and post a screenshot.
