Torrents over HTTP

Get a webserver, pref your own. You can pick unlimited ones up in Germany for around R300 (your own dedicated server). You are going to need your own server as bittorrents are pretty cpu intensive.

Perhaps get a couple of friends to pitch in a couple of bucks together to rent your own server.

Upload script, connect to database and voila. Basically its a bittorrent client that runs runs on your server that is controlled through a PHP script that connects to a database.

Since torrents are shaped through their moer in SA they come down pretty slowly. So you get the server to download the torrent, and then you http the download at full speed to your PC.

this will only work if you have a hellava lot of int bandwidth or uncapped....
the whole thing with torrents is that you can use them locally and nzb's...

yeah man! rage against the system some more! tell us about the injustices of copyright lawsuits!

please, justify piracy some more. i'm intrigued. no, really. the poor kids caught shoplifting can justify their "crimes". the previously disadvantaged folks who break into houses also don't call it stealing, it's just sharing some of the wealth.

Copyright infringement is not stealing. Duh. If anything, it's free exposure and advertising.

http downloads should be very easy to trace.....

Some would believe anything to suss their own mind!

I have almost a 1000 Region 1 DVDs at home to prove you wrong. And I personally know the producer of a whole series of them who is more than happy that he can ship them to me.

I'm not like you - I speak 4 languages and I enjoy my foreign cinema, as does the rest of my family. SA is a cultural backwater as all you can find is Hollywood trash in DVD shops and the occasional Cinema Paradiso DVD (overdone IMO).
The same medium which allows the sharing of 'copyrighted goods' allows others to shop the world - and discover each years' Cannes, Golden Globe, Cezar, etc awards or new and upcoming directors.

oh man i wish i had this argument when i sat next to my friend during matric exams and copied his answers. you're a genius.

So what did you get busted for then-- stealing his answers or cheating?

If you took your school's DVD player or his cell phone it would be stealing.

They can trace all they want but downloading copyrighted data is not an offense, sharing it is.

They can also trace your Rapidshare account or IP address too.

Theft of propert = stealing, removal of an object/s that that somebody owns, so if you stole it the won't have it anymore.
Copying/sharing on the other hand doesn't remove the object/s from a person, The don't loose anything, If they do its a small amount of money, becuase most people that pirate wouldn't have brought the thing in the first place and gone without

theft is also the concept of passing off another's ideas as your own.

it does not always entail physical property.

who the hell said piracy was "passing off another's ideas as your own."? The there is a difrence between people who copy, and people who copy and sell, and I do not support the latter, and I can garentee you, very much in this country, if prices from software came down, piracy would drop dramaticly, but of corse, the greedy publisher/record companys want to squeeze every cent out of us, like that scumbag bobby kottnek

People will never openly admit to being wrong. They convince themselves that they are the victims here because they can't find their beloved bollywood dvds locally, so copying it is OK! All the other stuff they can find locally just gets hidden beneath the mounds of bollywood dvds to hide it from their conscience :)

i'd get busted for stealing his ideas, i'd be prosecuted for cheating on the test.

You'd get busted for breaking the rules - Matric is meant to certify YOU not your friend, if you cheat or copy his answers you are defeating that purpose.

I don't think you'd be prosecuted as cheating on exams is not a criminal offense.

durrrrrrrr

Those who live in glass houses....

yes if i took my school's dvd player or the dude's phone, it would be theft of property. what is your point?

To correct your incorrect use of the word 'steal'.

I don't know about that, but I do know that the internet has made marketing international shows across regions possible and very cheap. Intellectual people can now pick up a copy of Andrzej Wajda's (he's not Indian) "Danton" from Criterion Collection and enjoy it.

Bollywood, just like most of Hollywood, is trash, but it's nice for Indian folks and other aficionados to watch. There are some art house Indian directors too but mainstream stuff is just fluff IMO.

.

So what was your argument about then? You're admitting to being able to buying DVDs - this thread is about copyright infringement.

Also, congratulations on being an intellectual!

All they are doing is taking popular torrents, downloading it themselves, and then uploading them to their hosting. Pretty ****ty idea. Might as well use Rapidshare.

What is "torrent hash" ?:o

Torrent hash is a unique key made for each torrent. So what you're supposed to do is take the hash of the torrent you have, put it in this search engine, and it will tell if they are hosting the file.

What's a takedown policy? Are they referring to taking down files that are subject to copyright, or are they referring to an agreement with some kind of entity which will not take them down when such files are discovered on their storage?

It means they will take down the files. They gonna be very bussy and you will prolly not find what your looking for half the time as media companies will be sure to report their copyright content for take down.
