Telkom proves it once again. A totally pathetic company. I wish I could burn it to ashes. Soz about the harsh words but it deserves it.

My adsl has been down since saturday afternoon. After about 20 calls to the techs.. after which I had to wait at least 20 minutes before they answered I finally got my problem solved. My pc and equipment was perfectly fine but the techs made me do a 101 stupid things that never worked. Basically, i couldnt browse, couldnt connect to irc, my adsl was screwed.

Eventually i got a techi in to come and test the line, which he did and was said to be 100 percent fine. I then phoned them again and told them that I had tested 2 different isp's, 2 different modems, and still the problem persisited. They still couldnt help. Finally Sunday night they forwarded this complaint to some1 at saix and today as i post, my adsl was off completely, and then all of a sudden it was working again. So basically 2 and a half days without adsl. Now because the technician came in and the line was tested to be fine, of which it was not, they are gonna charge me a fee of a R115 for an unecessary callout which I don't deserve to pay as it was an atm problem. Apparentely the techs at telkom told me that sum1 else in welkom had the same problem.

So now because the line tested fine.. I gotta pay R115, never!!

Telkom is pathetic. They are corrupt! no-1 that works there has a clue of what they are doing, I could tell them more about adsl and I only know the basics.

Marco

It is a shame. Really it is! I suggest you dispute it in a friendly but firm way at your nearest Telkom office. Telkom does have a complaints department (I think it is their credit beurau??) where you cand dispute these things. I once had a telephone billing problem which they solved. I could prove my claims.

Just don't give up! Be persistant and friendly at all times. I know it is difficult, but losing your temper at the paper pushers will do no good as they have to deal with angry customers all day long. If they really are nasty and stay that way, then get angry...

From the telphone directory:

Resolving your compliants:

<cut a lot of stuff that don't work>

Regional Customer Care Manager FreeCall 080 060 0126

<cut a lot more>

These guys were able to get stuff fixed in hours when I was about to give up and hand Telkom to the lawyers.

You will need a reference number...if you don't have one, have your compliants history ready (number called, who you spoke to, time of call etc, state that you asked for a ref no but that the operator refused to give one - quite a few entries were nobody answered witin 5 minutes in my 1 case). They often ask you to fax it - and even laughed for themselves when they realised that my complaint was that my fax line was'nt working.

Again - being friendly might get you somewhere, but you will need to be bulldog that won't drop the case.

Remember to state in your compliant that it is unfair of Telkom to require clients to diagnose an error on their systems, or even take the risk of Telkom's inability to diagnose the cause of the problem.

Best of luck!

This has happened already twice to me. In both cases the port at the exchange was blown. The last time this has happened, I asked them to first test the port at the exchange before thgey send someone, as that will save them time.

I was told in no uncertain terms that their testing procedure is to first test the line at the exchange, and THEN test the line at the customer, AND then test the port at the exchange.

In both cases it took the Telkom engineer about two hours to get to my premises, 30 minutes to test and fiddle, 1 hour back to the exchange, and then about 5-6 hours before I am back online.

The technicians are always very helpfull, but it seams they have to adhere to a draconic management that does not allow initiative at all. If management says this is the way you do it, that is the way it will be done, and just you dare try to give good customer service!

No matter what they are still pathetic. I don't understand how it can take them 20 minutes everytime to answer. With 2 technicians the phone just died and it wasn't me who put it down. By the sound of it they put the phone down in my ear. I was calm, relaxed, didnt say anything harsh, so they can't blame it I made them put it down.

Secondly I sent emails to the support@telkomsa.net and to there accounts department as I wanted to make sure they were'nt gonna charge me for their own errors. 3 days now and no reply!

Even the telkom technician who came to check my line said himself telkom is useless and he has to work with a bunch of people who dont have a clue what they doing. How corrupt.

And the worst part of this all is today my ping is hitting 50. This morning it was its normal 20. Since im an avid gamer i really only want but the best ping and the whole day i have had a 50 ping +.

Telkom can amaze u :(
