Tough decisions need to be made regarding SAA

Tough decisions will need to be made in the immediate to turn South African Airways into a viable airline.

Public Enterprises Deputy Minister Phumulo Masualle said this in the National Assembly on Tuesday when he participated in a debate on the recent strike at the national carrier. [SANews]

What IS the purpose of SAA. That is one of the biggest problems. What is the mandate? Make a profit? Or are there 101 political and social functions which are not compatible with the profit mandate.

Close it down already.
And send the new aircraft back to the supplier.
I don't understand how a bankrupt airline can get that much credit in the first place.

The tough decisions needed to be made 5-6 years ago already (if not earlier) Now what's going to happen is going to happen, it's not a decision when there is only one road in front.
