Nothing against cars built in India, some are great,
Especially the ones made from wood. :erm:

Toyota has just lost the plot. They need to do what Kia did and hire a top chief designer that worked for one of the big German motor companies.
Which Toyota engine are you referring to?I wouldn't get too excited about that "Toyota" engine - it's a very old generation 4 cylinder, built in India - never seen the inside of a real Toyota factory - it's longevity will have to prove itself.
Apart from not being able to live with the stick on plastic panels on the outside, I could not live with this car in a Million years!
God only knows
TB is correct - when these cars first arrived at the dealership, to say that the mechanics were horrified is putting it mildly - I had to make sure that prospective buyers didn't look too closely under the bonnet, or inadvertently knock the dipstick and feel it clatter around inside the engine!
I only sold one of them, as I talked most buyers into a used something else - anything else in the price range - the one that I did sell was to a local district nurse who begged me for it and if you looked at her trade in, which was a 1998 Meteor with around 300 000 very hard km on the clock, plus, a variety of panels picked up in various scrap yards, I guess it was an improvement!

He is referring to the ones in their "budget" vehicle like the Etios..
Yes the more expensive vehicles are much more like Toyotas of old... but even they don't have the same ridiculous level of reliability anymore.
Unfortunately I can't agree with you with you on that, they still are reliable .
You sound as if you have been one of the crazy South Africans who has actually shelled out cash for one of these POS!!

i10 is the only I have driven and they are very well built. I know the new Honda Ballade gets built in Mexico and India and I have yet to come across someone that has a dodgy one.Really? Name one.

You bought one of the worst cars in the known universe, that drives like a pram, sounds like an over-revving lawnmower and is probably as safe as a Datsun GO just because of a comment on one of the mildest forums on the interweb?
Easily influenced much?

Really, I do not really think so. Did about 700kms yesterday. I can speak only good of the Etios Cross this far. However, I am busy packing and heading to Cape Town later today. This will give me a better idea of the performance of the car. It's not my BMW X5, but I need to see why or where all the complaints comes from.
The past 4 years I bought the Hyundai Getz, the i10, a Corolla and a Citroen C1. This far the Etios Cross beats them all hands down. I will, however, see after the weekend, when I return, if I still feel the same.
