I loved my old Tree-to-Tree branded as a Laser....

Was bleak when the fekkers stole it and then decided to destroy it....

Toyota's have become 5h1t and any mechanic worth his salt will tell you that.

The reality is Toyota are still riding that quality and reliability wave from 20+ years ago so unfortunately most gullible South Africa's will buy any turd they put out.

I wouldn't get too excited about that "Toyota" engine - it's a very old generation 4 cylinder, built in India - never seen the inside of a real Toyota factory - it's longevity will have to prove itself.

Apart from not being able to live with the stick on plastic panels on the outside, I could not live with this car in a Million years!
Which Toyota engine are you referring to?

God only knows

TB is correct - when these cars first arrived at the dealership, to say that the mechanics were horrified is putting it mildly - I had to make sure that prospective buyers didn't look too closely under the bonnet, or inadvertently knock the dipstick and feel it clatter around inside the engine!

I only sold one of them, as I talked most buyers into a used something else - anything else in the price range - the one that I did sell was to a local district nurse who begged me for it and if you looked at her trade in, which was a 1998 Meteor with around 300 000 very hard km on the clock, plus, a variety of panels picked up in various scrap yards, I guess it was an improvement!

So did you work for a dealership or did you work for toyota?

He is referring to the ones in their "budget" vehicle like the Etios..

Yes the more expensive vehicles are much more like Toyotas of old... but even they don't have the same ridiculous level of reliability anymore.

Unfortunately I can't agree with you with you on that, they still are reliable .

You sound as if you have been one of the crazy South Africans who has actually shelled out cash for one of these POS!!

I could not resist this comment, in fact it just made me go out to Toyota and buy the damn car! Got it yesterday and I have to admit, it is not as bad as it has been made out.

I agree, they did not do much when it comes to sound-proofing the vehicle, but at 140km/h I can perfectly hear what is going on in the car. Nothing different to any other vehicle in its class. It's got a nifty engine and the interior looks great. I have no issues with the plastic around the vehicle.

Tell me again, have you worked for a dealership and what was the reason you left?

You bought one of the worst cars in the known universe, that drives like a pram, sounds like an over-revving lawnmower and is probably as safe as a Datsun GO just because of a comment on one of the mildest forums on the interweb?

Really? Name one.
i10 is the only I have driven and they are very well built. I know the new Honda Ballade gets built in Mexico and India and I have yet to come across someone that has a dodgy one.

Those are built by international companies that just happen to have plants in India. Look at things made by Indian companies, or built for the Indian market and rebadged as decent brands, like the "Datsun" GO, "Totyota" EtiTOS, any Tata ever, any Mahindra ever, etc.

Fair point. If I ever do buy a car that was born and bred in India it will be the Mahindra e2o.

Really, I do not really think so. Did about 700kms yesterday. I can speak only good of the Etios Cross this far. However, I am busy packing and heading to Cape Town later today. This will give me a better idea of the performance of the car. It's not my BMW X5, but I need to see why or where all the complaints comes from.

The past 4 years I bought the Hyundai Getz, the i10, a Corolla and a Citroen C1. This far the Etios Cross beats them all hands down. I will, however, see after the weekend, when I return, if I still feel the same.

Really, you think that thing is better than an i10?

LOL. How much are they paying you for this marketing? The i10 isn't a great car by any means (I'm not a fan of any of these tiny lunchboxes) but at least it's built properly. The Etitos feels extremely cheap, plastic panels loose everywhere, the metal feels only slightly thicker than foil. The same way the new Yaris and Corollas feel cheap, but much, much worse. And the noise. Holy crap I've never been in a car that made that much noise. It sounds like the engine is straining so hard it will fall apart any second. So I can't see how the Cross version, which is the same thing but with more plastic glued on, would be any better.

Its not any better..

Someone is just trying very hard to justify their decision to spend the money on the vehicle.
