merely for the fact that they “pretend” to be SUV offroaders - anything from the Cross Polo, Etios Cross, Sandero Cross, Kwid Climber with a few added bits of plastic at the sides and wheelarches, all the way to the Mercedes GLA, GLC and GLE that one would be filled with trepidation to take off the tarmacadam for fear of ruining the paintwork…Do you think the crossovers are worse vehicles than the hatchbacks they are replacing/outselling?
(This coming from someone who drives a Tiguan 4motion - which the true 4WD’ers also point to and laugh, calling it a “platkar”, but to which I have at least fitted
Goodyear Wrangler Kevlar A/T M+S 235/65R17’s and driven in sand on Namibia’s C and D roads and Ganzi in Botswana, in muddy conditions near Coffee Bay, Hole-in-the-Wall and Port St Johns, through shallow water crossings and over Swartberg Pass, R339 Avontuur/Uniondale (Prince Alfred’s Pass/Uniondale Poort) etc - but admittedly these can also be negotiated driving cautiously in a hatchback if you have nerves of steel.)
