Tracking validated email addresses

I need a way to count the amount of validated email addresses a user sends out. My thinking is this:

A user fills out a carriage return delineated textarea and submits the form. The email addresses are stored in a table along with the sender's user ID. The sendee receives an email with a link back to the site with the sender's ID in the querystring. A script plucks the ID and email address from the querystring and marks the email address as validated.

Any thoughts?

Rather try using a GUID (Global Unique Identifier). Generate a GUID for each individual email before it is sent out and store it in the table, with the link in the email having the GUID as parameter. Match the GUID in the query-string to the GUID stored in the table for the specific email address and set it as validated.

If you do it this way, you don't have to expose email addresses and database IDs through a query-string.

ah... users... and their emails....

Can everyone who ever got "www.xyzcompany.com" as an email address field (and then being asked why the email is not delivering to them) please raise your hand?
