Best smartphone trade-ins in South Africa

A comparison by MyBroadband shows that Samsung South Africa's online trade-in website offers the worst smartphone-for-cash trade-in values among several major online trade-in outlets.

A MyBroadband reader recently wanted to trade in his Samsung Galaxy S22 256GB before upgrading to a new device.

Samsung in SA is really dismal. I also discovered the trade-ins were way below 2nd hand value and opted to just sell my own device.

Also the vouchers are an absolute rip-off. I paid over R30k for my Galaxy S23 Ultra and got a R2k voucher via e-mail from Samsung. Yes it said T&C's apply but there was no link to click on to see or find the T&C's. All it did say was the voucher was only redeemable through the Samsung Online Store. No problem as a year later I wanted to upgrade to the new Galaxy Watch7. Error with voucher. About 2 weeks later Samsung replies to say the voucher was only valid for 3 months. Really!!!! After paying R33k I did not have any money for a few months to spend on anything else from Samsung.

Luckily Amazon SA had R2k off on the Watch7 I wanted, so I bought it from them. But as far as I'm concerned I just buy today for what I pay, I don't trust ANY of these vouchers and no-link T&C's anymore. If only Apple was not so restrictive, and clunky with its menus, I'd happily have gone back to them. Their quality and value is unsurpassed, but after 2 attempts to use their products, clearly our philosophies differ too much around the OS.
