Traffic congestion: best and worst cities in South Africa

One of the perks of living in PE: traffic is generally not an issue.

That would be your only advantage!

87 hours delay per year! i don't think so, with avg 220 working days a year it works out to 23 minutes a day. can't be!

Happiness...

Durban currently has bad traffic problems on the main freeways due to construction, and even then its still more than acceptable delays.

It still takes me an hour to get to work and I only have to be there at 9 so I leave after most of the rush. It's 23 km away from me :( so that's literally 23km/h average.

On some odd days I take the world class N1 back home and always see it packed sometimes to a crawl around William Nicol and Rivonia after 7pm! :/

Why is the author surprised about Cape Town being ahead of JHB in some respects? JHB has invested extensively in its road network and my experience has been that traffic in JHB has actually gotten far better than CT in recent times. The ease with which one is able to cover a great distance in JHB is amazing. CT's road network has nowhere to expand so while more and more people are getting cars, we are still stuck using the same congested routes built in 19 voetsek.

I must say TomTom - well timed in the Apple Maps fiasco
