Hi guys.
I am seeking some advice.

Our firm recently switched over to using VOIP phones.
It is a Grandstream GXP1165 VOIP Phone. We have 2.

We have 1 VOIP account through Afrihost which they said supported 6 devices. We have one 087 ... number.

The problem is that I am not able to transfer a call from the 1 phone to the other.
One device is plugged directly into a Wi-Fi router via ethernet, the other is plugged into a Wi-Fi Extender.
I am aware that these devices to Direct IP Calls but when I enter the other phones address the call fails.
Both devices IP addresses are more or less the same. Ex. 192.168.1.___. Even the one on the Wi-Fi extender is in the same format. 192.168.1.___.

When both phones are plugged into the router the Direct IP call feature works
Another idea i had was to try and transferring a call to our number again, but this only opened the phones voicemail.

Does anybody have a solution or a recommendation? Any help would be much appreciated!

Another problem with the phones is that only 1 rings and shows a call when called. The other 1 is able to call out but doesn't show calls received. Any solutions?

Both endpoints should ring and show the missed call. I suspect SIP ALG might be the cause here, make sure its disabled on the router.

Honestly I think you are spending far more time than is necessary on this. Just get a another voip account and add it to the other phone, or implement a software based PBX on the local network.

Thank you for the advice.

I will try configuring the router.

I have to agree, getting another VoIP account would be the easy solution, but not the fix I am looking for.
I want the company to operate from only one telephone number.
This purpose of this exercise is to operate as a switchboard to the other VOIP Phone.
With another VOIP number people would just bypass the main number and call the other phone directly, which is what we are trying to avoid.
I switched from Mweb to Afrihost for this exact reason. Afrihost's VOIP account supports up to 6 devices simultaneously.

What PBX software would you recommend? Should be basic and easy to setup.

You will not be able to do this wihtout a pabx. I do not think Afirhost is has a cloud PBX . Direct Ip call will work its not the same has has an external call . Inshort without a pabx you cannot do call transfer easliy.

I use 3CX for my mother's company.
The free version doesn't deploy to desktop phones, so you would have to do that manually.

If you want to self host then I would recommend looking into https://www.freepbx.org/

I understand, thank you for the explanation.

@killerbyte , thank you for the advice about the routers SIP ALG setting.
After I disabled it both phones started ringing when calls are received.
Really happy about that.

We have decided to leave the call transfer option and would rather upgrade the system later down the line if we use the VOIP enough. No longer need a PBX system.

So, I have another headache and am hoping you would be able to help.
The VOIP phone line works for a couple of minutes, after that I can no longer receive calls.
I call the line from my cell, but it keeps ringing and goes to voice mail. Yet I am able to make calls out from the VoIP phone at any time, and it goes through.
I feel that something is going to "sleep" on the phone if that makes sense.
On the phones SIP settings, I enabled KEEP ALIVE registration, but this made no change.
Do you have any advice?
Would be really appreciated.

Regards,
Rudolph

Keep Alive should have helped.

Maybe reduce the SIP registration time to 60 seconds.
