Thanks

Apps and their data can't be transferred without root. The Play Store knows which apps you've installed and for things like save progress you'll have to rely on the sync's to individual services such as developer accounts (with Konregate or King for instance) or Facebook or Play Games. Super Back & Restore (now called Super Backup SMS & Contacts) can copy contacts, calendar entries, call logs, SMSs, favourites (apps only with root). And Google's own Synch can do contacts (except when you sync back it brings all contacts from your Gmail account over, also those that were never in your phone and are just email addresses) and cloud synchs for all the Google Services/Apps.

Esfile Explorer you can back up all your apps, open the backup folder select all apps and then open Esfile on the new phone, then back on the old phone click send to device, select new phone and send them over. On new device select all copied over apps and click install. Those instructions are approx, so apply common sense and some experimentation generously when doing it yourself.

That's the only way I have found.

That's just copying the APKs though...not actually the data held within.
So it's no different from going to the Play Store to MyApps and downloading everything you've ever had installed again (other than there will be no data consumption when copying from phone to phone).

No data but it saves trying to sort out which apps you want downloaded and installed again in the Play store especially if you have previously uninstalled a lot of apps.

Log in with your original Google account on your new phone. That's it.

Please expand on that, I'd like to know how that is done, will Google install only the apps that were on the old phone or every app you've ever bought or installed previously?

How does Google play know what apps from the possibly 100s of previously installed apps you want on the new phone?

It keeps a current list and a everything ever list so maybe that's how. That said my Z3 didn't auto-install a thing despite sync being active for a while (I generally have it off cuz there's nothing to sync). I manually selected each and every single thing so maybe that only applies to connecting the Play Store after a factory wipe on the same phone rather than a new phone?

Yip, that's what I want to know, seems there may be a way that the Play store only installs what's on your last device?
But what happens if you have 2 phones and a tablet and get a third phone, what apps will be installed?

The ones he last had installed on his phone. It's not rocket science.

How do you get to that window because I've never been prompted for it when opening the play store for the first time on a new phone?
It's on the OOBE setup screen when you first boot the device on stock Android or AOSP (Cyanogenmod etc.). Not sure about custom skins like touchwizz and Sony etc.

Ok never seen it on stock Samsung, Sony or LG, wonder if that feature is there. I have heard of something like this before, anyone know how to get it on a stock rom?
