Transparent proxy problems?

Hi all

Is anyone else experiencing huge problems with http traffic over the last day or so? Looks to my casual observation to be an issue with the transparent proxy, as most other traffic is fine, traceroutes are fine, etc. Why does Telskum even use a transparent proxy? Is their crippling 3gig limit not enough for these greedy bastards?

Thanks

Ciao

Can't say we've had problems here Zak, but the proxies they are are Netcache machines, sitting at the DSLAMs, so it could be just your DSLAM is effected by a problem with the proxy.

They use the proxies to make things look faster for the users. As far as I can tell, these things have quite a bit of storage capacity, and a reasonably large file limit, it appears to be around 20MB or so. I have seen cases where downloading a file that lots of other people might have downloaded happens a lot faster than would be possible on 512kbps throttled bandwidth.

The highest I've seen has been 250KB/s, which means it was probably almost the entire 2MBps capacity of the physical line.

Thanks for the info Willie. I wouldn't have a problem with transparent proxies if they were, well, transparent ;-)

Seems to be beter now though.
