As per the heading, I have the opportunity to go to the states and I have to decide whether I am going to be in Miami or California, possibly LA or San Francisco.

I have never ever been abroad. I would like some advice on which of the above is the better holiday destination, in terms of weather, value for money and nightlife.

Weather and affordability is a huge factor for me. I am not too bothered on the nightlife, although I would like to check out some bands while I am there.

I have until this evening to decide where im going. Please advise.

Thanks!

Tornadoes or earth quakes?
All jokes aside, go test a Mojito in Miami. I think it's the best destination of the 2.

Take this with the view that I was there 10years back, don't know what the scene is today.

Quite a few live bands in San Francisco, this time of the year weather can be cold clammy one moment and short sleeves the next, nightlife is a lot of fun, quite a few places to chill and talk to people then grab a beer at the next corner bar, food at next etc.

LA I would avoid, feels to me like you are suffocating in the smog, nightlife was boring, people were very stuck up (was there quite q few times for 2 week stretches). I will grant you that the beach there was pretty nice.

Miami no idea, only saw the inside of the airport.

Both great destinations. I suppose it boils down to what bands/shows you want to go see and who is playing where.

Miami is very cool, very pricey though, also try stay in Ocean drive, close to all the hot-spots, Weather is always nice, South beach amazing, you can spend the whole day people watching

Cali - Havent been, but its on the list ;)

San Francisco seems like the obvious choice to me. Everyone I know who's been said it was incredibly beautiful and that there was loads to do.

If you go to San Francisco and the weather is nice, go early in the morning and spend a sat/sun in golden gate park. Roads into the park actually get closed and people rollerscating/blading/bicycles everywhere, was really fun to just go have a picnic there,

Miami!

In my opinion wins on weather and nightlife. Value for money - not so sure.

Go to California. There you have more options re. social, nightlife and culture scene. The weather is also great.

Maima is full of fake t!ts and fake people. In the summer the weather sucks: tropical storms and 98% humidity every day. Also depends when you are going as there is also hurricane season to contend with when vsisting Miami. I lived and sailed out of Ft Laud for nearly two years so I know a bit about the area.

So is Los Angeles. I recommend going to San Francisco and that area. Close to napa valley as well.

Don't go to Los Angeles.

Go to California. Miami is like Durban, but instead of black people, substitute old rich white people.

Los Angeles is best avoided, but SF is very interesting and not as crowded. San Diego also worth a visit and you can pop over the border and visit Mexico. There you jump straight into a third world country, quite different from SA

California is a lot further away as its on the West coast so if you are not really fussed either way I would pick Miami. The main differences would be California has more mexican food while Miami has more Cuban. Take your pick.
