Travel ban for South Africa on the cards

South Africa’s Cabinet is considering drastic measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic, including a total ban on travellers from Europe and holding sports events in empty stadiums.

This is according to a Sunday Times report, which said there may also be a limit on gatherings of 1,000 people.

The headline doesn't fit the content of the article which suggests self-quarantine.

Why only Europe, why not Asian travellers as well?

After all it did start in China.

The article clearly states a travel ban. The self-quarantine is another measure which is considered, which is a separate measure from the travel ban.

We linked to the original article for you to check.

First issue is that we're quoting Sunday Times who have had to apologise on numerous occasions about running a story with no proof (literally, sales trumps truth in that outfit).

Second: why a 1000?

More sensationalism from Sunday times and mybb exacerbating the problem.

Article may as well be: SA to possibly send Corona infected to Kalahari.

The ST article is behind a pay wall and basically just list things being thought about without quoting anyone.

I think it's a good thing. It's probably already a bit late but still

Considering countries are shutting down and some are only keeping food stores and pharmacies open, we can avoid all that crap and economic ruin if we just start controlling our borders and push even more (overkill) resources into chase teams and quarantine sites etc.

On the other hand panic buying may stimulate the retail sector

So, how are they going to stop travel between Zim, Botswana, Nam, Moz, Swaziland and ZA?

Travel ban, more like extra bribe money.
