Hi All

I would like to get an idea of what other employers are paying as a travel rate per KM. Please can some people just post below the rate and the region they based:

ie: Durban and 3.50/km

Thanks

Thanks for the above but this is the SARS rates. I am trying to find out what other employers are paying staff as a flat rate.

Normally the SARS rate is to avoid paying tax based on your travel allowance. Here I am trying to validate that we are paying in line with other industries.

I used to be able to get hold of the AA rates backing table which allowed me to work our an AA rate for a host of different vehicles but this has not been updated since 2012 and so I cant use it anymore.

A bit over 4 - Pretoria. Due for an increase though...hasn't been increased in 2 years.

Thankful for it...I'd need a separate cash reserve just to absorb the fluctuations in fuel bills otherwise (Mixture of 500km weeks and 0km weeks)

Our company reimburses us the sars rate of R3.24. That was the 2013/14 tax year. I don't know the new rate yet.

We got R3.70 for the last tax year. I'd have to ask what it is now.

Geez... I only get paid something like R1.20 per km (it varies month to month, but is always in that general range)... But I get a monthly vehicle allowance of about R3400, so I don't know if that evens things out a bit...

Up to R4.50 for this year, excluding tolls, etc.

R1.20? Ouch.
My petrol costs me like R1.50/km (rough estimate here).

A competitor of ours in Stellenbosch is compensating his staff at R 3,30 for the use of 1600 Bakkie year 2010

Hello everyone
I just wanted to find out if there is any legal rate or anything that can be done to increase the rate ? My rate is 1,397 per mk. my fuel is 1,2 per mk. is there a certain law that would entitle me to a higher rate?

Interesting topic. It's quite the debate in our office.

According to the running cost calculator on the AA website, the total operating cost of my vehicle taking the fluctuating petrol price into account is R3.96 for February. (2011 Polo Vivo Trendline 5Dr, 1.6)

The rate I'm allowed to claim back for February is R1.39. Is there a law that dictates what the minimum should be here? Or can employers pretty much pay what they are comfortable with?

I'm based in Gauteng (JHB.PTA)

Company fills fuel in my vehicle ( using petty cash) and I get reimbursed R2.80 for every km travelled for maintenance.
