*** EGYPT ***

Anyone been there recently ( December perhaps) ?

I feel I need to get a breather so want to take wife and two smallies for a 10 day break, planning to fly out on the 25th.

Last time I've been there was in 2008/09 , so of course things have changed since then, and I'm hoping for the better :fingers crossed:

I am flying Qatar cos Emirates is not available.

I'll hire a car to run around.

@RanzB - Did you make the rounds there for the food joints ? lol

Any tips will be appreciated.

Why Egypt?
There are not that many (other) choices unfortunately.

Also Egypt is a very nice tourist destination, with Sharm El-Shaikh having amazing beaches.

The weather is perfect right now as well.

Which other country do you propose ?

Sorry, I am not questioning going to Egypt, I honestly would like to know why Egypt as it is not a place I have ever considered for a holiday and looks a bit dry for my taste. Maybe for a history lesson, lol, or if I was into scuba diving (heard is is one of the best places), but yeah, shows my lack of knowledge.

The beaches do look beautiful. What is the food and culture like and mixing with the locals?

Also what do one look at cost wise?

Yeah, and then there is the fact with limited options.

Eish, I just want to go back to the Philippines. But not an option at the moment.

Yeah there are not many options at all currently, so Egypt is the best bet so far.

I could go to Maldives but I would rather do that with my entire family , and there is no chance in hell the rest of them would allow us to go without them.

Oh dear...here we go.

Would there be any point in listing the countries I've traveled to and also lived in?

Or will this just devolve into another typical internet argument or pi$$ing contest?
You dont seem to travel a lot hence not knowing which countries are restricted for visas.

I just want to know why you are against Egypt, perhaps your concerns will enlighten me ?

Heat, flies, people trying to scam and/or force you to buy their tourist trinkets - since the government collapse the tourism industry which was like 80% of their economy took a nosedive, can't imagine Covid helped that situation

Have a good egyptian guide that knows the tricks and people to take you to the more touristy spots

And buy water in bulk from a cafe and freeze it before the tours if you find one with decent prices

Thanks for the warnings, and all those (scammers) were experienced back then already, lol.

Is your experience recent ?

I am just going for fun to get out of S.A , so I will do things at my own pace.

Will google places to visit and drive myself there.

Usually Hotel Concierge gives good advice on the do's and dont's.

Really sad how hard the tourist industry has been hit world wide and will completely change the experience people had previously in a place. I guess on the other side it might be worth visiting a place more than once as the experience might be different this time around.

For me personally I would like to experience more "local" than the over priced tourist "destinations" in a country.

I guess if I ever wanted to go for "tourist" experience I would like travel the hot spots in Europe or something.

Is everybody that doesn't immediately agree with you, "triggered"?

I know this has become the new go-to "counter" on forums, but it is becoming really stale now TBH.

Not that it matters, but here goes:

I lived in the UK for 2 years. and traveled the whole UK extensively.
After that lived in the Czech Republic for 6 months, traveling from there to nearly all the countries in Europe.

I lived in the USA for nearly 2 years, sailing yachts from there to the Caribbean and back and sailing the North East coast ( Boston, NY, Cape Cod, Hyannis Port, Martha's Vineyard ) during the hurricane season.

Traveling extensively during my times off in the US.

Also did 5 Atlantic crossings, delivering yachts to various boat shows, especially Sanremo, Italy, stopping at Bermuda and Gibraltar.

What did I like about all these countries/places you also ask?

Well the fact that it wasn't in Africa....

Sheesh....okay. I think time in the US explains the outbursts. :p

Ah, you are seaman!
How the heck did you end back in Africa?

You haven't maybe spotted a lonely langskip?

On a serious note, which was your favorite place and nice place to go for a family?
