Turkey / Istanbul is also a good option, based upon the current options South African passport holders have.

Also pretty cheap currently, a based upon your requirements (Food, architecture, local coffee etc.)
If that's a suggestion for me, then thank you for this.

I have visited Turkey a few times between 2018 and 2019 since my son was studying there.

So as you can understand, I'm a little tired of it.

I also only fly Emirates or Qatar, I don't ever fly with other airlines.
Some salty chaps in this thread

Def wouldn't risk travel to a country with sketchy health infra during these times though.
That's why I will hire my own car and do all touring myself.

I am very fussy about mixing with people, and avoid those spots.

No problem. Yes i have also been a few times but there are some very nice spots around Turkey which can cater for any of your requirements. If your looking for something at the beach, Antalya is a good bet. If you are looking for something a little more magical and experience of a lifetime then you can go Cappadocia.

I don't even fly Emirates anymore, if i am going Europe/middle east I fly Qatar due to Doha/Hamad international airport which is my second favorite airport. If I am travelling South East Asia I will fly Kenya airways or Singapore airlines, which is both not bad at all.

Another great surprise was Tunisia, i had a stopover there coming back from Turkey via Tbilisi then to Tunis and if you are looking for great history and amazing food, dont overlook it. Just my 2c

Actually it was on my list, but checking if Qatar is flying that way.

You are right about Turkey though, all those cities are fabulous. @RedViking will love it.

I'll make another round that way maybe in about 2 years.

I want to do Europe (UK,Belgium,Netherlands) in September and USA in December ( If they allow ).

EDIT: Just found out that Turkey requires a 10 day transit before entering the country. USA is 14 days.

I am indeed, and the journey was a tough one but perseverance and dedication has paid off.

I wish/pray the same (abundance) for people like you :)

Came across this and thought it might help OP, and others who wish to travel.

Shows who may go where with what restrictions at which price.

Nice find , thanks.

Not too accurate for example Egypt is not coming up but I am able to fly there with Qatar

The very few countries that do come up have the hefty restrictions.

I travelled to Egypt a number of years ago. Ancient Egyptian history was fascinating and makes the visit well worth it.

Modern Egypt is a dirty, third-world country, that I never want to experience again. And their driving style puts our taxi drivers to shame.

I would like to take the SO one day, but this time on an organised tour that takes in the key sites, then leaves. You can see what you need to in Egypt in 7-10 days easily.

*** EGYPT ***

Anyone been there recently ( December perhaps) ?

I feel I need to get a breather so want to take wife and two smallies for a 10 day break, planning to fly out on the 25th.

Last time I've been there was in 2008/09 , so of course things have changed since then, and I'm hoping for the better :fingers crossed:

I am flying Qatar cos Emirates is not available.

I'll hire a car to run around.

@RanzB - Did you make the rounds there for the food joints ? lol

Any tips will be appreciated.

Went years ago but we stayed on a ship and travelled up the nile. Took care of travel and all meals.

Luxurious and cool.

EDIT: @Sinbad beat me to it.
