Hello,
I will visit South Africa for vacation and I will travel from Kapstadt to Krugerpark. Because I have to sync E-Mail every day I need internet access. I'm using the Merlin XU870 data card so the necessary hardware is available.
From what I've googled and read here in the forum it should be no problem to go online. Here is my plan.
1. I will use MTN as my provider because I've got the impression they have a reliable connection and good coverage over the country (at least via GPRS).
2. I have to pay a prepaid sim card from MTN. Is there an overview of shops that sell MTN prepaid sims? Or even better, where can I get one in Kapstadt?
3. Can I load money from my credit card to my sim card or do I have to pay vouchers?
4. I've read that with “Date bundles” the effective price p. MB is cheaper and it could be used also with prepaid cards. How can I order such a data bundle and what rate would be best for approx. 1 to 2 GB p.m.?
5. From the MTN coverage page I saw that in some areas there will be 3G and EDGE. Will I use this for the same rate if available?
Thanks for any comments and answers to my points.
regards, Franz
P.S. Unfortunately I couldn't ask this question directly to MTN because their contact web site needs a valid mobile phone number. No other contact e-mail address on their page
