These 'long distance' cost comparison articles are totally missing the point of an EV.
We agree, you shouldn't go anywhere interesting. Instead, you should do the right thing and save the planet by staying at home and watching Netflix.

In fact, it highlights the shortcomings and impracrticality of the EV in SA. Not to mention that diesel or coal was used to generate the electricity for it.
EV's are better suited for urban use in South Africa. I would have a nervous breakdown using one over a long distance. Unless I sropped at the local pub in every dorpie along the way while I charged it.

Everyone knows an EV is meant for short distance, city traffic, so why keep writing articles pointing to it's poor range or slow charging or charging costs etc. ? It's like saying a Polo is impracticle or can't go anywhere interesting, because of it's poor off-road capabilities (except a rental Polo maybe).

I drive a diesel 4x4, but I wouldn't mind an EV for my wife who only uses her car for her daily commute and school run.

EDIT: Typo

Because EVs cost a cr@pton amount of money. If they were 50% of the price of ICE vehicles, then not having 50% of the capabilities is fine.

I was not surprised to find they did a theoretical road test only. Did not step a foot outside.
Reminds me of what a scientist once told an engineer during a meeting to discuss the lack of performance of a new design for a reactor. The engineer complained about the poor product purity according to the analyses done on the product, which he disputed. He told him that according to their theoretical simulation the purity should be much higher. The scientist responded by saying the "Simulation is much like masturbation, almost the same, but not quite...". The meeting was adjourned after that comment.

Article is wothless without times. How long does it take EV vs petrol. How much extra did you spend at the EV stops getting coffee, snacks etc. Did you have to stay in a hotel overnight?

This is like the 7th time this year this exact same article gets trotted out.

When is MyBB going to do some proper journalism and actually do a real world comparison where most cars, EV or ICE, spend 90% of their time, i.e. in city traffic doing the school run, shops, gym, etc.

I find it strange that a tech site is so unbalanced in its reporting about tech.
