Evening folks,

I'm going up to Uganda on wednesday to see the old man and want to take my external drive a long.

The question I have is: will the drive be damaged by the scanning devices used at the airports??

It's a IDE drive in an external enclosure (aluminium).

I remember back in the day when I went to Rwanda in 98 and took a HDD with, when I got home the thing was fried, had to format it!!

Please let me know if I'm being a bit paranoid:)

Why don't you put it in the luggage that goes in the hold? You don't need it on the plane do you and being in the external case should protect it from those maniac lugguge handlers...

Seriously, them chaps at the airport in Uganda are gonna lock me up when they see an external drive and I ask them to not scan it!!

Kekeke, well, look at the bright side...

Um...

Hmmm...

No, no bright side - they'd probably think it's a bomb and make you some big man called Bubba's little puppy...

Not worth it, I think :)

Airport scanners shouldn't affect hard drives at all. Heck, airport scanners don't even affect stiffy disks (yes, I used to fly with a lot of them).

Plus you have to switch on the notebook (ok, this was a while back), to make sure it works and that you are not hiding some 'other' components in the Notebook body
