Let's wait and see. Like mentioned in the news interview above you, there are still big chances that more names and individuals can be added to this sanction. I believe it will happen, but the US is in all likelihood officially informing the SA government before the trigger is pulled on government officials. Corruption works two ways and cannot be committed by only one party.

No need to wait and see really, its almost a guarantee that they WON'T list any SA Government official. The political fallout would be immense.

No country in the world, who is in an alliance with the US can deal with the Guptas. This move has big repercussions.

Actually not in the slightest on this point either. All this does is prevent US entities from dealing with the Guptas and Essa... it does not, and cannot dictate to other countries.

If that's the case, America's big buddies Saudi, would also freeze the Gupta accounts.
The US need Arab money. They wouldn't do jack when the Saudis killed that journalist who was a US resident.

It will be a great country who will stand up against the US declaring that they will assist the Guptas while the US has sanctioned them.

Many countries do on a regular basis Lou.

Robert was on this list as well, and he still travelled to Singapore regularly, and did business in many other places as well. Hell even the EU at times.

Why hasn't Jacob Zuma been put in jail? Dubai has extradition with SA so the Guptas should be in jail with him.
As usual - ANC = Absolutely No Consequences.

Like I said earlier it's a start. And long overdue. Gupta and co need to get feel some heat.

I think the US has placed tremendous pressure on the ANC with this, especially that more names can, and probably will be added to that sanctions list real soon. I think this is the best thing that could have happened.

Very much this...
The heat is mostly just huge complications in them doing business though. Similar to what happened to Oakbay when the banks shut their accounts down here. They will work around it, but it makes life very difficult.

Question, how come the US turns a blind eye to all the Guptas partners in crime, Zupta and his band of ANC goons?

The political complications with that, far outweigh any benefits that it brings...

That would expose them as hypocrites, and they had no problem doing so with Mugarbage.

Given the volume of US Assets and business interests in SA, they have to tread carefully when it comes to sanctioning direct members of the ANC and the government

Hows this compare to the action taken by the South African government against the Guptas?

Considerably better, though to be fair its a fair chunk easier for the US to make this sort of move and the burden of proof for them is much much lower.

Mmmmm...I am going with.... the US has done this at the request of the our government, US does not usually get involved in a shithole's ****..unless their interests are being threatened .... request most likely came from our NDPP... don't forget her days at the ICC and the relationships/contacts that were forged...question is, what prompted this move ... this has been done to disrupt/curtail something?...Gupta funds ,our money, is clearly being moved around to fund , some yet unknown ,something .

The SAPS and NPA definitely was involved. But, they did not initiate this. Back in 2017 the FT already reported that the FBI was indeed looking at the Guptas. At the time it was reported that they had US interests and also family living there if I remember correctly.
