I went into a camera shop today, and the salesman told me that the tripod could take 5kg, and the ballhead 2kg, so it could take a total of 7kg. Surely you can't add the 2 together like that??

No. The ballhead will prolly slip with anything over 2kg (which is a bigma without a camera).

That's why he's working in a camera shop instead of in the field shooting ;)

LOL, unless you're in ORMS or ODP shop I doubt that 99% of camera shop salesmen know anything about real photography stuff...... I was in my local fotofirst (the owner knows just about everything about tog stuff, so I guess he is exception). He has the Manfrotto 055CX carbon legs on sale in the shop, OMG I want it so badly!!! Super super light and so so sturdy!!

I've had nothing but knowledgeable service from Orms. I would be surprised if it was one of their salespeople...
