So here's what I've found. I cannot login to supersport the first time if my dns is set to google. The moment I reset dns to automatically retrieve from wan, super sport logs in with no hassles.

Tested this with streaming and with google dns servers it buffers horribly. Reset to dns from wan and it streams perfectly. This is however on openweb, but thought it might be relevant here.

Hope this helps...

I'm based in Durbanville, Cape Town and will say that the Afrihost account has been doing this for +/-3months I've had this account.

Some of my clients with Afrihost accounts are experiencing the same problem.

Youtube I can Stream at 720p without issues, 1080p is a no go :(

Not sure of other streaming services...Problem for me so far is mainly Supersport & DSTV

Ever since the Afrihost DNS issues, I have been having ****ty streaming. Prior to the DNS issues my automatically obtained DNS were two Afrihost adresses

now it is one Afrihost and one Google

Preferred DNS Server: 196.7.7.7
Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.8.8

This is what my router is reporting as my DNS servers.

@wconan whats your line speed and account type?

I am in Lakeside, been an issue since I have been a Afrihost clients, so just over 2 months. Don't remember having this issue with the 1GB free account though when I was still with Mweb. If I use the 1GB to test now, it also has the same issue.

I have an open Support issue related to the Supersport speed, but it was always implied that it was a problem on my side. In a way its "nice" to see others with the same issue, so it cannot be ignored.

I streamed some soccer tonight to see if it did the same and besides me being bored to death it didn't stutter once. On Saturday I had to refresh the feed every five minutes.

Congestion from Supersports side?

I have a 4MB, 75GB Capped account - So it should be Unshaped/Un-throttled

Hi There,
From the sound of it if it works on SAIX and not on Afrihost then the physical carrier has to be contributing to the fault.
I look forward to Afriguy's findings.

Thanks

Hmm sounds like peering hate - perhaps the evil mweb is doing this to hurt the much better competition :)

Something like this occured a few months ago and it turned out to be an issue on their side. If we can replicate the results on our side then we can escalate to MTN for them to check directly with Suportsport's network people :(

Just wanna chime in, watched LFC - Sunderland on Monday with zero buffering and watched MANU CL last night with almost zero buffering. 1Meg line. Pretty impressed.

(almost zero buffering means it buffered around 5 times over the course of 90 minutes, and the longest buffer was around 4 seconds)

Wonder if the is a Cape Town issue, looks like most of the users with buffering issues are based in Cape town?

Can't really be sure, I'm based in Cape Town and haven't had any issues streaming SS recently :)
Please keep us posted though!

Have things improved lately guys, or are there noticeable buffers while streaming Supersport still?

Unfortunately not :(
For the past 20min I'm trying to view the Singapore F1 Highlights http://www.supersport.com/video/play.aspx?id=277254
Playes 5sec...Streams 5min.

Changed to SAIX Account and its playes perfect.
Switched back to Afrihost acc...The same problem again.
This on a capped/unshaped 4MB line  NOT GOOD

We'll need to get comparative trace routes so that we can see if we're routing significantly differently to other ISPs, causing latency.

Can you drop me a PM, please? :(

Since moving to Afrihost (Business uncapped) last week, everything has been better than with my previous ISP, except the sport streaming. I thought it might have been upload issues on the provider side, but since my Plugg account is still active until the end of the month, I tested it on there, and I had no issues whatsoever on the streaming. Moved back to Afrihost account, same old stutters as before.

I repeated the above throughout yesterday, it seems consistent.

Could it be in any way related to the fact that my line is still with Plugg? Moving it over 1 October, by the way.

EDIT: I will do the separate Trace Routes tonight to see whether it's ping-related.

I just checked now with the hi lights for the cricket and it streams half way then nothing. My sons mweb account works fine so yeah must be a problem on afrihost routing or something.I have 4meg uncapped afrihost account and it all started with the dns problems. Im in Somerset West, gets abit frustrating when you have to reload all the time.

Exactly my issue as well...and around the same time.

The problem is you cant tracert to dstv/supersport as they block certain ICMP traffic.
