No mention of the experimental drug in there. Isn't dexa only beneficial for critically ill patients?

There have been some promising results with respect to the drug Dexamethasone from the recovery trial which is a clinical trial being performed in the United Kingdom to look for drugs which may have use in the treatment of people who have severe Covid-19 disease.

Dexamethasone is a long-acting steroid drug, which has been available for many years. It is by no means a new drug or a breakthrough drug.

It has been used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions and for short term immunosuppression and other specific conditions.

So why should we be excited about dexamethasone?

Some preliminary results from the recovery trial show that the use of dexamethasone in critically ill patients suffering from Covid-19 reduces the likelihood of death and the length of time for which ventilation is needed. It may also decrease the likelihood of requiring ventilation in patients who are already using oxygen therapy in Covid-19 disease.

This sounds great but there are some cautions and caveats.

Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, these are preliminary results and have not been peer-reviewed or published as yet.

This isn’t to say that they are meaningless but that they still need to be reviewed. What is peer review? Before the results of trials are taken into clinical practice they should be assessed by other scientists (i.e not the original investigators).

This is to reduce the chance of statistical errors and bad study design changing clinical practice. This is routine with clinical research. Unfortunately, during the Covid-19 pandemic, there is massive demand from the public for information and hope, and there is always the temptation to release trial results before they have been reviewed.

Of course, if the results are so significant that they could not have occurred by chance alone, then it is reasonable to report these. It remains to be seen into which category these results fall.

Secondly, this treatment is only for critically ill patients on the prescription of intensive care physicians. This medication has no role in the prevention of Covid nor the treatment of mild disease.

Systemic steroids are not without side effects which can include water retention, hyperglycaemia, adrenal suppression, depression and skin changes amongst others. In particular, if you suffer from any chronic medical condition, treatment with steroids may worsen your disease.

It is also worth noting that steroid treatment in the context of critical illness remains very controversial – steroids have come in and out of favour for many years now amongst intensive care physicians.

Please don’t ask your GP to prescribe dexamethasone for you, or go to your pharmacist and ask for dexamethasone. It remains only for use in the critically ill. This is a rapidly evolving space.

‘Don’t tell anyone’: Trump tried to hide positive COVID-19 tests spreading through the White House

The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that President Donald Trump tried to hide that he first tested positive for COVID-19 when he waited for a second test on Thursday.

According to the report, Trump attempted to hide his first rapid test that gave him a positive test result. Oddly, Trump was supposed to take a COVID test on Tuesday upon arriving at the debate site, but he arrived “too late” to be tested. So far, 11 Ohio people at the debate site have now tested positive for COVID.

“Mr. Trump received a positive result on Thursday evening before making an appearance on Fox News in which he didn’t reveal those results,” said the Journal. “Instead, he confirmed earlier reports that one of his top aides had tested positive for coronavirus and mentioned the second test he had taken that night for which he was awaiting results.”

“I’ll get my test back either tonight or tomorrow morning,” Trump explained in the Fox News interview. Trump then tweeted at 1 a.m. on Friday that he’d tested positive.

‘There’s no pandemic’: These Trump supporters are standing firm on COVID-19 being a ‘hoax’

President Donald Trump is hospitalized after testing positive for coronavirus but his base still refuses to accept that the reality of the situation: coronavirus is real.

Many of Trump’s supporters are already circulating conspiracy theories to downplay the spread of the virus. Others are attempting to justify how the president may have contracted the virus insisting someone may have “planted it,” according to The Guardian.

A 56-year-old truck driver was briefly interviewed while standing outside of an early voting facility in St Joseph, Missouri. Despite Trump, himself, testing positive for COVID-19 amid his highly criticized response to the pandemic, the trucker still casted his vote for the president.

In fact, he still insists the coronavirus is a hoax and the pandemic is non-existent. As he quoted the president’s words, the trucker also attempted to compare the coronavirus to the flu.

“It’s a hoax. There’s no pandemic. As Trump said, how many millions die of flu?”

He also shared details about a theory that suggests Trump may have become infected with the virus when he was tested.

“If he’s sick, then they planted it when they tested him. It’s what they did to me when I went to hospital for my heart beating too fast. Two weeks later I got a cold,” he said. “It’s political. I don’t trust the US government at all. Who are they to mandate personal safety? I listen to Trump.”

So, I see the Trumpets were out at Lake Mary again today .....
Didnt get much of a reception either since Donny got the Kung Flu.

And before some little wrist slapper asks me to join Antifa, no, I dont particularly approve of Trump, but that neither makes me an leftist or what ever derogatory name is doing the rounds or is popular on the kiddie channel.
Save it for your little buddies.

Tis my prerogative whom I choose to like or endorse.

It is hardly an experimental drug, they prescribe it to babies with mild croup to help with their breathing.

A single dose of dexamethasone (0.15 to 0.60 mg per kg usually given orally) is recommended in all patients with croup, including those with mild disease. Nebulized epinephrine is an accepted treatment in patients with moderate to severe croup.

Take your issue up with the medical folk being quoted on the SA Coronavirus site Dr konfab.

Maybe publish a paper for peer review.

Really makes you kind of reconsider the old wisdom that evil is basically dumb-as-**** and ultimately encompasses its own downfall.

Turns out the experimental treatment isn't this steroid but some antibody drug by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.
