Yes, he got a little overzealous, to the detriment of his reputation. However, there's a chance it may have looked like something he has worked with before. He jumped to conclusion based on incomplete evidence.

Yea..A private forensic guy overzealous, jumping conclusion on incomplete evidence working for me. I can see how that backfires on his clients very fast and quick.

He comes more off like a wanna be amatuer than anything else.

The circuit board Eskom CEO André de Ruyter found under the driver’s seat of his Volvo was likely the panic button of a pre-fitted tracking system.

“Based off of the photos that you have sent us, our third-party supplier Tracker have informed us that this could be one of their older devices that were fitted to Volvos a few years ago,” a Volvo spokesperson told MyBroadband.
Wait.. de ruyter doesn’t have a new car..
How commin…

I've seen a similar situation, but in a different industry. Someone with absolutely no experience in a particular field misidentifying something and even sanctioning a wrong type of test for the particular piece of equipment. It was like trying to retrieve a piece of plywood from a pit and you convince people a single magnet on a string will work. It was a little funny.

He's no electronics buff. Some electronics devices do look similar. Don't tell me you've never mistaken one thing for the other.
The guy that see a moving light in the sky and scream "Aliens" don't get that understanding.
