Does it take this long to port a number to 8ta? One Week and all I get are excuses and people who love to escalate things to another level were nobody does anything.

I went to 8ta Parow to do a port in. Things were done, got my SMS and hey MOnday you will 8ta user. Come Monday, nothing so I call 180 and my order was messed up. Went back to store same day and port redone. Was told 24 hrs it will good. Tuesday nothing, so I called 180. Was told order stuck in system so it will be sent to technical department. Ok so will check after 24 hrs. Wednesday afternoon, nothing. So I call ed 180 and was told it will be unstuck by midnight. Thursday nothing, spoke to 180 again and was told it takes 72 hrs to resolve via Tech Dept.. Today Friday 12pm, nothing. Spoke to 180 and they are saying I have to wait another 72 hrs which means next week Wednesday I maybe on 8ta.

As I type this, the customer lady is telling me I need to get authorisation from my current network to get the number released so that 8ta can take over!! Is that a new requirement or something she just made up whilst talking to me?

This is silly especially since I am trying to port in!:mad::mad:

Thank you for fixing my issue which took 240 hours to resolve compared to 24 hrs. Erol hung on whilst he fixed my problem. Or maybe it was a big stick hovering on his head....:D:D:D

Maybe some free data to make me smile for joining your network in such a shambolic way?..... :)

Thank you!

Normally the routing tables are messed up, happens frequently to unlucky folks. Just make double sure the routing has been successful, try phone your number from BIG red, Yellow, Black, Telkom landline, NeoWho to see that your number can be reached and not stuck on the system.

You will get a lot of benefits joining Telkom Mobile/8ta frequent goodies, recharge receive free airtime, free minutes etc.

Yeah I decided to join but somehow someone had messed up the type fo sim card and the order to facilitate the port in was stuck and then nobody did anything. I understand gremlins are lurking somewhere or mistakes happen but for people not to respond, or read emails or pass the buck (I literally went through almost 20 people from managers, agents, supervisors, departments, etc in the last 10 days), I got fed up with how I was being treated hence the venting on every social platform. I did the same for Discoverycards(applied in Oct 2012 and managed to get solution and cards in July 2013!! but only after Helopeter, FB, twitter, countless emails to senior management and customer care department)I suppose that is what one needs to do to get the service you want.

Still hoping for a free 500MB "We-are-sorry-handshake":whistling:....or maybe I am hoping too much :D :D

I'm experiencing the same problem. Port requested on Sunday at Telkom Eastgate store, was told it would take 48 hours. When I phoned this morning I was told that the request had been cancelled on the system, and ran out of airtime while awaiting an explanation.

The only thing I can think of is maybe there's a waiting period from my previous provider? Last month I transferred to CellC prepaid from Vodacom, only to discover that their coverage in my area is just as bad. CellC informed me they don't have a waiting period though, but who knows if these call centre reps know their facts. [Telkom apparently has a three-month waiting period when porting out - according to an employee].

Anyway, I'll PM Telkom Mobile; perhaps they can assist.

I suspect that there's ICASA regulations making this illegal. The only grounds an operator can have for blocking/delaying a port is an unfinished contract.

I would like to see someone investigate the regulations, as I'd hate for operators to use porting as a competitive weapon.

Thanks but no longer necessary; I contacted CellC in the meantime, and was informed - contrary to what I was told earlier - that there's in fact a 60-day waiting period.

Just updating this thread with Telkom's response. As suspected, I'm still within the "waiting period". Wondering now if this is legal (thanks to nicroets)!

Please be advised that the Port In has been rejected due to the following reason:

Reject Description:
MSISDN or DN/DN Range cannot be ported again within the Ported Lock Time

Last ported to CellC 2013-11-04 Can only port gain after two months.

It's legal because ICASA says the donor (the operator you're porting from) can reject a request to port from them if the number has been ported in the last two months.

Yeah cellphone providers are acturate with the Port Lock Time until the minute...... I was only able to port exactly 00:00:01 on day 60 after my last port. Anything before that it got declined cause of the "port lock cool off" period... I suggest you count 60 days from your last port and that would be the day you can request a port again... For now you are stuck for that time.
